My mil nicely popped round earlier today to drop off granny and poppa xmas pressies for us. (despite us telling granny and poppa we'll be down before xmas anyway to visit them, mil insisted on bringing them up for us as if we're incompetent and can't drive!)
Apart from being annoying as usual she carried on to tell me how granny and poppa had been laughing at our choice of name, which we hadn't told granny and poppa yet. MIL and my mum donaren't keen on the name, which I don't care about as she's my baby not theirs. But apparently granny and poppa have been singing "she'll be coming round the mountain when she comes" bubba's name is Shelby. So MIL had to tell me all about granny and poppa singing this constantly - felt like telling her to f*** off and stop taking the piss of the name since we are not changing it. Plus - Shelby doesn't sound like She'll be, just cos the bloody people can't pronouce She'll and Shell properly. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

MIL is slowly getting her babysitting duties reduced everytime she opens her mouth.

Mine doesn't listen to anything I say - she just talks over the top of me. She's desperate for a grandDAUGHTER, and reminds me of this at every available opportunity (we're on team yellow and really don't mind whether it's a boy or a girl). Then when she sees the look on my face, she says "Oh I suppose it doesn't matter, as long as he or she is PERFECT".

Me and DH will love our baby no matter what!

Ooh no pressure then! What if (god forbid) there is a problem with bubba - will she not love her/him then!

God I wish people (aka MIL) would think before speaking!!!

At least us mummys and daddys here will love our bubba's no matter what happens!!

My MIL is normally the one who drives me batty (she was an absolute nightmare when it came to the wedding) but she has been *knock on wood* relatively sane so far. My mom on the other hand has been rather pushy on my 'losing weight the second the baby arrives'. Now I am normally a fairly small person (size 0-2) and have gained the right amount of weight but my mom is constantly making these passive aggressive comments about my weight that are driving me up the wall:

"I can't understand it, I looked so great when I was pregnant"
"Are you sure you wouldn't rather have a jogging stroller so you can get back in shape?"
"I think I should buy you workout clothes for Christmas instead of something for the baby"
"Don't have any snacks, you only need three meals a day"

Etc. etc.

Driving me f*ing crazy- I'm getting close to telling her off!

Who knows?! Long before I got pregnant, it felt like a grandchild was some kind of accessory she felt she deserved! I can't help feeling that she'd think she'd been cheated if the baby did have any kind of problem.

She hasn't phoned me once during my entire pregnancy to ask how I am - I have phoned her many times as I thought she'd appreciate an 'update' - and I was always the one to phone her before I got pregnant to ask how she was, etc - always thought I should make the effort! But as time has gone on, I'm feeling more and more like a grandchild-producing machine! She barely phones DH either, though - so I don't think it's personal. I think she's just wrapped up in her own world, and sees our baby as something to enhance her life.
