i turned the jab down too.
there is no way they can predict an outbreak - the pandemic isnt and hasnt been as bad as they thought it would be. Its just something to write about in the papers n scare people!

tho a plus side, is that by the time Terri is 6 months, the vaccine will have been going for nearly a year so there will be a lot more evidence/tests as to its effects so will be good when making the decision on whether or not to let her have the jab.

I teach and have probably been in contact with more bugs than most over the last few months, but I've got 5 weeks ish left to go and finish work next week so I've got gel handwash in every bag, coat pocket and in my car, a mountain of tissues in my bag!

There's probably more chance of getting run over by a bus, being in a car crash or something far worse happening over getting swine flu.

PMA ladies like we had at the beginning!
What hand gel would you recommend? And where did you get it?

I need to get some to carry around with me.
I use Carex as it has moisturisers in but any will do!

im not having it either. they have no idea what long term effect it may or may not have on our babies. as for them predicting an outbreak, thats what they said a few months ago then again for oct/nov and we havnt seen it yet. they cant possible know whats going to happen. i would rather not go for the risk-too many medical blunders. i probably would if i was not pregnant tho. i think everyone ha their personal opinions on this and should do what you feel is best for your own situation. x

i was offered it a couple of weeks back and told them i just wasnt sure, they said to speak to my midwife but when i mentioned it to her all she said was 'we've been told to recommend it' but thats all she said, she didnt say she thought i should and didnt say she thought i shouldnt so i am going to leave it for now.

i had swine flu at 19weeks and am sure i must have built up my own antibodies.

Currently I dont plan to have it. Should there be a mass increase in cases over the next couple of months I will reconsider and am keeping monitoring it. Jan/Feb is typically the time of year when any colds/flu/bugs going around, seem to be at their worst, and in all liklihood there will be more swine flu cases at this time - its not exactly rocket science to work that out, I wish these experts would credit us with some intelligence!

If such a pandemic occurs then I will re-consider my position. But for now I dont believe there is quite the big threat they seem to like scaring us about.

I dont think its been as big a panademic as they first thought, i dont watch tv often and especially not the news, but there hasnt been alot of mention about it lately? I think if loads of people were dropping off the face of the earth because of it and they offered something to prevent me and my baby dying id have it, but i havent even had a cold this yr so far (touch wood) so swine flu is far from my mind. Its not proven to be safe for bubs so im not risking it!xo

Ive turned it down through my work (NHS) and the doc now. There just isnt enough research been done on it for me to risk my babies life

I am afraid most hand gels are good enough to kill bacteria but not virus (which is what causes flu), I saw some that specifically mention killing virus too, but those must contain much stronger chemicals. That said, I use a cheapy gel too after I have been in a bus or supermarket etc... better than nothing Washing hands whenever possible and avoiding putting them anywhere near your face is probably the best prophylaxis that there is.

Does anyone know if we will be offered it after we give birth? I am due beginning of March. I dont mind getting it then and passing the antibodies on through breastmilk.
