to the statement: "Don't reach your hands over your head when you're pregnant or the baby's umbilical cord will get wrapped around his/her neck and strangle them."

Most of the sources I researched through, said no, but I just wondered what you ladies had heard.

My mother told me this when I got pregnant. It is an old wives tale I think. It is totally not true. I told her so, and she confided that she always felt so guilty because the cord was wrapped around my neck at birth, she had tried to be so careful. I told her that it is not uncommon to have that happen, and does happen in about 1/3 of all births. I felt so bad for her.

I have heard that too, but totally false. Everyones babies would be all tangled up in their umbilical cords if it were.

I doubt it's true or the midwife would have warned us.
I'd be annoyed though as I'm small so I'm always reaching up
