I never had any internals, but im not sure how it is in Connecticut. I just had my area prepared every time lol, as I wasn't sure if they'd say "right, whip your knickers off then" lol. I also made sure I wore knickers which covered me slightly more, I once went to a scan with some sexy lacy undies on (just wasn't thinking) and was a tad embarrassed.

I don't think they should be doing exams until about 38 weeks. I would insist that they didn't. It can lead to infections.

I think all doc's are different, but mine said that its optional up until 39 weeks. I would just try and keep it neat down there when your going. lol

Your doc might request to do an internal at your 30wk (or close) to determine cervical health and chance of early labor.

No one looks down there for very long like a pap, they just lift the sheet, see where to put their fingers, insert as they drop the sheet back, do a quick check, then your done. Took me longer to type this than it actually takes in real life.

I was supposed to have one at my last appt, doc said "Baby is still really high, so I don't think we need to check you today."

whew.

But I expect they'll start checking shortly.

As far as the infection thing goes, they use gloved hands and it takes all of 2.3 seconds (unless something is awry and then you have the benefit of knowing ahead of time if early labor might happen).

I would think having sex would introduce more infectious problems than docs gloved fingers. And that is completely natural and supported in pregnancy unless there are prelabor issues.

Anyway, it is your right to refuse, and not do anything you aren't completely comfortable with.

Im always worried she is going to want to look at something down there or check me out so I scrub like no bodies business before every appointment lol! Im paranoid about being clean in that region, but especially before some doc is going to look around...

I always get paranoid if I'm between waxes, looks a bit untidy...
I've found it really handy to carry some Fem Wipes in my handbag, and wear a liner.. and then go and 'sort meself out' just before popping in to see the midwife. Also, make sure my legs are shaved, and moisturised with some nice fragranced cream.... Honestly !!! I don't think I ever made that mucg of an effort for my Hubby !!!!!

I am not that bothered. For one, I am in Austin, the hippie capital of Texas and since midwives are not commonly used, most of those who use my midwife are totally granola. So I know she is used to seeing things being natural down below. I do my best to keep it under control, but it is hard now that I can't see down there. I told my DH he is going to have to help me out from now on.
