Blood Results

I recieved my letter today with my results from the 30 week bloods

It says I am low on Iron and have to see my MW asap. Which is lucky in a way as I'm seeing her at 3pm.

However as usual I get all worried and Googled it and it says that the baby can be smaller than usual and can come early

Is it something that I'm doing or..not doing, I'm really scared that the baby won't be ok

I'm worried how serious this is, does anyone else have low iron levels?

Yeah I got my results last week. They told me my iron was not only low in my blood but also low in my stores. They have put me on iron tablets now.

I was really annoyed because they didnt even call me to let me know, just told me at my ante-natal appointment.

I nearly fainted at work a few times and they said "oh yeah thats because of your iron is really low"

Errrr HELLO I didnt know !! Im so angry about it all..

I've been eating loads of red meat, green leafy veggies, cereal, lentils and having lots of oranges and fresh juice. That was before my blood tests, so i was soooooo shocked it was low.. I thought I was doing everything right??

They gave me literally no advise at the doctors, so let me know what they tell you!!

Mine is low as well. My midwife said now was about the time she expected it to drop anyway, and it might come back up.

I am also taking a couple of suppliments for it as well. She doesn't want to put me on iron tablets as they cause constipation. I also found that the cereal Grapenuts has like 90% of the daily iron in it.

Me too. Started them last week. Trying harder to eat iron rich food. Had to take iron tabs at this stage with my last baby and she weighed in at 8lbs 2oz. and she was delivered at term. STOP GOGGLING

I'm taking iron tablets now as well. I think its pretty common for women to have low iron during pregnancy, especially late pregnancy. I would stop googling girl, my doc told me she thinks my baby is already about 7 1/2 pounds! I'm sure they will give you some advice and reassurance at your appt today. Dont worry! =)

Yeh i have low iron too except i have a blood condition which means i cant take iron tablets, so my iron is always really low, i'm seeing a blood specialist on Monday next week, but they made me wait 2months for the appointment so low iron can't have a massive impact on the lil ones, bit annoying though.

You should be fine, im pretty sure it won't affect the baby. Just try and eat lots of foods that contain natural iron, you could also find out what helps your body to absorp it better as well that could help....?

She measured me and said i was 32 which is fine (not sure if there is a check list for averages) so that's ok. And didn't mention any risks just to get a prescription from the GP. Not sure if I'm more or less worried that she didn't tell me anything about it lol!?

Mine is low also - around 10. It's very common in pregnancy (see below - anemia in pregnancy) so try not to worry

Anemia in pregnancy is very common and is present in almost 8o% of pregnant women. Because volume of blood increases during pregnancy (hemodilution), a moderate decrease in the concentration of red blood cells and hemoglobin is normal.

Mine were really low too. It is really common in pregnancy because that baby sucks all the iron it needs from you and so it leaves you low. My doctor says its especially common in the 3rd tri because the baby is building its iron stores(?) and so it takes even more out of you. If your measuring a 32 thats perfectly fine! You should be measuring the number of weeks you are give or take 1-2cm. Dont stress and just talk to your MW today when you go in
