Painkillers.. is paracetamol really it??

I am seriously in a whole world of lower back pain last night and today, I can hardly move, let alone walk, even going to the toilet is a mission to get there and back. I've tried massage, hot shower, hot bath, heat packs and paracetamol and nothing is even touching the sides of the pain.

Is paracetamol really the strongest painkiller I can take??? Would just one neurofen be that bad at this stage of my pregnancy?

When I was in hospital over the weekend, they started by giving me 2 co-codamol 8/500 which didnt help the pain I was in at all. So 4 hours later they gave me 2 30/500 co-codamol which worked a treat, and they reassured me that it would cause no harm to baby (as long as taken in moderation) They also gave me a Tamazapan sleeping tablet (which i was worried about) but again have told me will cause no harm to baby, they actually gave me a script for me to take one every nite now that Im home.
I know they wouldnt give me something that would harm my baby.

Hope this helps x

I'd definitely talk to the doc/midwife with pain that bad. If you are really suffering they can give you stronger drugs. Also, you could get a TENS machine... People actually use them for back pain, not just for labour pains.

i have heard this... just haven't got around to organising a TENS yet, was hoping just to hire one and my hosp doesn't hire them out until you hit 37wks,.

Will def speak to the MW tomorrow and see if I can get something stronger, I still need to be able to function during the day and today I just can't.

Manufacturers of TENS machines advise against using it before 37 weeks so this is probably why the hosp won't hire it out til then. Although there's no certainty it seems it's damage control for them in case you were to go into early labour. Don't think there's any link between early labour and using one before 37 weeks but i guess they're just covering their own backs I really hope the MW can sort something for you tomorrow and you start to feel better. xx

as others have said hun, ask MW or Dr. I've had co-codamol when i was in a&e at 14weeks with bleeding and pains and i've taken nurofen throughout rather than paracetamol and i just gave my MW a quick ring to see if was ok, try that hun. hope the pain eases off soon xx

Hi.

Your mw will advise you on what you can take. Tends to be cocodamol/codyramol.

I would avoid nurofen though - Ibuprofen is not recommended in pregnancy x

thanks for all your advice ladies,
I caved and got my OH to buy a packet of co-codamol on the way home from work and have just had one. it's hit the edge of the pain so I can at least walk around without being in agony.
Will speak tothe MW tomorrow about how much is safe while my back continues to. plays up.
