Question

Xrays when preg?

I know they say "don't have any xrays when preg" but what harm does it do to baby if I were to have an xray of my mouth?

Check with your MW and Dentist...

They generally try to avoid doing any x-rays during pregnancy, but it MAY be possible to have one done of your rmouth IF the rest of your body is appropriately shielded (with lead aprons etc). BUT check with your MW...

It's not the location of the xray that matters, it's the radiation exposure. It's probably not the worst thing ever to get an xray during pregnany, but why risk it? It's not like a dental xray is an urgent medical necessity.

Dental x-rays are fine as they are a very tiny amount of rads. My dentist told me that you would have to have tonnes of them to cause a problem with baby. I had one when i was about 8 weeks pregnant and thats what he told me. I then looked it up on the internet and it was similar info. x

I feel down the stairs at 26 weeks preg and had a xray on my ankle. They put lead padding over my bump and angled the xray away. apparently its more about prolonged exposure x

I thought it was something about the length of time, I know they bounce around and all but id think they would have a couple of lead coats they could put over bump...if not I shall tell the receptionist to go get some from another surgery and fucking hurry lol

I had one done on my shin, usually they are so low dose these days they don't even bother with the lead aprons as they can trap x-rays underneath them and cause more problems in terms of exposure than a few stray x-rays themselves according to the radiogrpaher that did mine

i had a xray at dentist, i had to put a lead apron on so it covered baby, also had to put one on when my youngest broke her arm and she needed an xray to check.

i dont think there is a problem with it as long as u wear a lead apron xx
