right from whati can find out and already no, a full blood count is made up of 3 parts white blood cells red bloodcells and platelets.
1 or more of these will be low to make your blood diluted you have to produce no more than 400 platelets, 11 white blood cells and about 4 red blood cells to have a normal result if tey are high your blood is very undiluted which is what i have a high clotting factor. if they are low they make the blood very diluted they can be low for different reasons. and it is poss that because of your iron been low in your marrow your platelets will be low. did she you would be refered to a consultant for any further test?

here you go my luv this is more detailed so i think this means your red blood cells is low.

Hemoglobin (Hgb) and Hematocrit (Hct) : The hemoglobin is the amount of oxygen carrying protein contained within the red blood cells. The hematocrit is the percentage of the blood volume occupied by red blood cells. In most labs the Hgb is actually measured, while the Hct is computed using the RBC measurement and the MCV measurement. Thus purists prefer to use the Hgb measurement as more reliable. Low Hgb or Hct suggest an anemia. Anemia can be due to nutritional deficiencies, blood loss, destruction of blood cells internally, or failure to produce blood in the bone marrow. High Hgb can occur due to lung disease, living at high altitude, or excessive bone marrow production of blood cells.
Mean Corpuscular Volume (MCV) - This helps diagnose a cause of an anemia. Low values suggest iron deficiency, high values suggest either deficiencies of B12 or Folate, ineffective production in the bone marrow, or recent blood loss with replacement by newer (and larger) cells from the bone marrow

I've got no idea about it being diluted, but I also am anemic, and the iron pills haven't been bad at all. They actually have given me a lot more energy. Thats a pain she wouldn't clarify for you tho.

Yep kelly's got it spot on. I would imagine your MW is referring to BOTH levels being low. That is, you have a low hemoglobin value AND a low hematocrit level.

Just a few things to remember. Taking vitamin C along with your iron supplement will help you absorb more iron. Yes, taking iron tends to be constipating, so take the metamucil or make sure you have plenty of water and fiber in your diet.

And things like coffee, tea, egg yolks, milk and soy protiens limit the amount of iron absorbed by your body. Limit these foods to get the most out of your iron supplement.

(Quick way to increase your iron,... cook in a cast iron pan.)

Anyway, good luck!

Thats the first time I've seen that doctor (my ante-natals are at my doctors and I sometimes get seen by the midwife and other times I see the doctor) I think I'll request to see the midwife from now on coz she's always much more helpful..

Thank you for all the info, I feel much better about it now..
