| Confused by doctors call....any ideas?? I just got a really random call from the receptionist at my GPs to say i've been prescribed some amoxicillin (which I'm sure is an antibiotic).
I asked what for as no one had mentioned anything to me, and she said it's something that showed up in my blood test results.
Now I haven't had my bloods done since 28 weeks.....it can't have taken that long to get the results!! But I was thinking if it's just a UTI surely my midwive wouldve picked it up last Friday.
Any thoughts, ideas or advice ladies?
Oh and also she was adamant, it got picked up today, she said she could even fax it to the local boots....it must be urgent??? | | | | Status: Offline

| I would ask to speak to the doctors, but incase there is some mix up. yes its an anti-biotic, but i dont see why it would take that long to get your results so i would insist to speak to the doctor. you have a right to know why you are being given some medication, i wouldnt take it unless i know why i am being given it! | | | | Status: Offline

| Call the surgery, and ask the prescribing doctor to call you back at home - It is reasonable to get answers to these questions, and no matter how experianced and professional the receptionists are etc, They will not be able to give you these answers.
I have been able to get my doctor to give me a call at home, with similar questions about a prescription - so it shouldn't be embarassing, or difficult.

| I agree that it is best to double check... (always know why you are taking something)...
... BUT my guess would be that they picked up something in your last urine sample?

| Hi there,
I was on that for a UTI (which they pick up during the Urine test)... but they should be able to tell you WHY you're taking it before you do
Call them back - hope you get a response,
Purple

| And it's penicillin based - just in case you're allergic. I am and the amount of times I've had to remind docs of this is the only reason I'm mentioning it. X | | | | Status: Online
