I'm Currently Feeling:

Maybe just worried for nothing.

You may remember I posted about a week ago saying I was worried baby wasn't growing so well since my fundal height wasn't growing at the rate it previously had been.

Well I'm still a bit confused and worried about how he's growing. At my 20 week scan he was looking quite large. He was growing at the top end of average for his dates. All the way through he's been growing well. I had an early scan at 9 weeks and then another at 10 weeks and 5 days and he was already showing up as 11 weeks.

I saw my midwife yesterday who for the first time measured my stomach & wrote it in my notes and my fundal hight was 28cm. I'm 30 weeks tomorrow and I know 28cm is still ok but surly not when the rest of the time you've been measuring a couple of cm's larger? She couldn't comment since all thats written in my notes is "dates".

Anyway surely if my baby is growing to be a good size and is still at the top end of whats average my fundal height should be higher? I don't have another appointment for 3 weeks & I will ask the doctor (who I'm seeing next) to check it but I can't stop worrying.

Also can how much you drink affect your fundal height? Yesterday for some strange reason I had nothing to drink till about 1.30pm which was after my appointment. Thats really unusual for me.

Thanks.

Hello,
If your scans are fine, and your midwife isnt concerned then I really wouldnt worry. The fundal height thing isnt an exact science - its a way of using an average standard to measure everyone against. A couple of cm here and there make no difference. If you can feel the baby move and are eating well then your baby should be growing at the rate that is right for it.
Hope that helps.

i was having this worry too, as i didnt put on any weight for about 4 weeks and my fundal height didnt seem to grow, but the midwife just said she thinks its a small baby, i really wouldnt worry as she soon had her growth spurt lol and even though i may be a centimetre or 2 smaller still now she is still growing so the midwife said theres no need to worry. all babies grow at different rates so unless the midwife is concerned i wouldnt be.

I wouldnt worry too much, if your midwife has any concerns she would let you know. When i was pregnant DS was measuring 14 weeks at my 12 wk scan, he was growing fine then at 35 wk i was only 32 cms, but he was moving around fine so no one was too worried.

My LO came out a healthy weight of 7lb8 and now 5 months later he's only gained a couple of pound.. hes classed as 'underweight' on the charts but he's a perfect chubby little boy. So its not always best to take what the charts say is 'normal' every baby is different

Good luck with the rest of your pregnancy!

A xxx

hey i wouldnt worry yourself too much, my LO was slightly a head i was 16 weeks and fundus measured 18 weeks then at scan she looked big. everything was on track. from then on i measured back on my weeks or just a week ahead. i went to midwife last thursday and i was 39 weeks exactly but only measured 37. then i went to midwife again on monday was 39 and 4 days and measured 38 weeks. i thin our LO's just get ahead of them selfs, if they worried about you hun, they would say.
