Fibroids and c section

Hi all

Just popping in from first tri for some advice.

My sister was told at her 12 week scan that she has a 3 cm fibroid and that if it gets any bigger the babies head won't get past it and she will have to have a c section.

Just wondering if anyone has had experience of this?

Thanks,
Kath xx

Hi - I have a little experience here. I had to have a load (12) of fibroids removed last year. I still have a few, and they seem to be muiltiplying again.

A lot depends on the size and position of the fibroids. Women can have fibroids and have no problems with the pregnancy or a natural birth. However, if they are near the bottom of the uterus they can cause problems with the baby's exit. Due to the hormones flying around, the fibroids can grow quite dramatically throughout pregnancy, most go down again afterwards. I assume that the professionals will want to keep an eye on this throughout - maybe with more scans than usual.

I will be having a c-section next week, but this is as a result of the surgery, not the remaining fibroids.

I don't know if this helps at all. I hope everything goes well.

xx
