KEGEL exercises!! Need to do these...

I hear about KEGEL exercises all the time. It's so easy to do, but it take discipline to do it everyday. Do any of you have a routine that you do?

I'm 7 months pregnant with my second baby and boy...I tell ya...it's time to start a regimented exercise schedule. I was so sick with coughing and sneezing...and every time I did so, I would have a mini accident sometimes!!! (I'm opening up here hoping that you are experiencing the same thing?)

Anyways, this is a reminder to myself and to all moms to do those KEGEL exercises. Share some exercise tips with me!

UURGH! I hardly do any because after reading that you're supposed to do 200 a day I kinda gave up. Do about 20 a day or whenever there's a post like this. I'm doing them right now.

And I know what you mean about making it harder for baby to come out. I think the idea is that is they're strong its easier for not only helping to push the baby out but also to get back in shape afterwards. I've heard so much about the cervix and the perineum that I assume the pelvic floor doesn't cause too much obstruction during labour.

Really need to get into a perineum massage routine too. You'd think we would have evolved just to pop these babies out whilst carrying on with our daily routine by now.

I had an antenatal physio class early on, where we talked about kegel exercises. I mentioned to the teacher that I'd heard that a lot of horseback riding (which strengthens your pelvic floor + your core muscles, generally) makes labour more difficult, so wouldn't the kegel exercises do the same? She basically laughed it off, saying both (the dedicated exercises as well as horseback riding) are GOOD things because, as redpoppy says, strengthening those muscles gives you more control during labour, makes it easier to push the baby through, and makes recovery after labour easier.

She encouraged us to do 5 sets of 10 exercises per day because this is a manageable number, and it's most important that we at least do some... Still, I have been really lousy about it.
