Day Assessment/Care for High Blood Pressure?

Hi,

Saw my consultant today, and my blood pressure was higher than normal (134/94)...there was also a small trace of protein in my urine.

Anyway, as a result, he has asked me to go into hospital tomorrow for a day assessment...

...Got to go for bloods at 10am, then up to the Fetal Health Unit at 10.30 for monitoring.

Has anyone else been sent for this type of thing?

If so, what did it involve, and how long did it take? (Should I take a book?)

Would be grateful for any advice.

Thanks in advance,

Lucy x

I got sent straight to the fetal monitoring unit at hospital last week, after a MW checkup. My bp was very high, I had protein in my urine and my hands and feet were swollen. I was so nervous on the way up there! They put me on a monitor to check bubs heartrate, did my bp a few times, and made me give loads of urine samples to test (so make sure you drink lots!). They were going to take bloods but as my bp went down while I was there they decided not to. I was in there about 2 hours, and then they sent me home providing I rest and go back to my MW this week.

Thanks for your reply.

Hopefully, my blood pressure will have gone down by tomorrow too.

Will make sure I drink lots, and take a bottle of water with me.

I haven't had any swelling, so hopefully this is just a hiccup, and all will be well.

Hi i have been a few times for high blood pressure, mine is where the consultants rooms are, you will prob have a blood test to check for preeclamsia and your wee checked and then go on the monitor for however long 10 movements take (take a sugary drink with you and this should take less time lol), it prob wont take long but if your blood pressure is high then they may make you stay till you get the results. Also if it is bad they may admit you to the ward
Hope all is well and its just a blip

Hi hon, so you have the joys of the Barratt to look forward to, if you find it bearing in mind all the building work I know some of the units have been moved about so make sure you give yourself plenty of time, antenatal assessment was on a ward last time i went in and not where it should have been at all! I would take a book and a bottle of water just in case, is this your first? I was in and out several times with my first but it was a long time ago so not sure if they do things differently now. I have to get up there on monday as my bump is too big, measuring 3 weeks too big for dates and my blood pressure is also creeping up which Im pretty annoyed about as I dont want to get induced later on. Anyway, all the best for tommorrow!
xx

I'm actually attached to Kettering General, as we are in Higham, so nearer to there than Northampton.

This is my first, but I was referred to the consultant as I have high BMI, my sister is Type 1 Diabetic, and there is a history of High Blood Pressure in my family (especially in first pregnancy).

Will definitely take a book and a bottle of ice-cold water with me.

My consultant has also sent off for a growth scan for me, as I too was measuring 3 weeks ahead today!! Was spot on for measuements up until a couple of weeks ago, and now all of a sudden, the baby is supposed to have grown massively! Mind you, at least I get to have another scan, and a chance to see bubs again...so not all bad.

I'm wondering whether they will offer to induce me early if he is still looking big on the scan? Would be nice to have him here for Christmas...(I'm not due until New Year's Day).

Sorry - I appear to just be waffling now!

Thanks to everyone for their responses - all the best with the rest of your pregnancies ladies!!
