Castor Oil - does it work???

Basically I want to know if it works??

I've tried everything else, and I mean everything (apart from the 'deed' which DH refuses so that ones out the window) so I thought I'd do some research and it seems a lot of people recommend it - even midwives. What do you think guys???

I can't believe your DH is refusing sex...hehe....men are such wimps!

Someone I know is due around now, I can't remember her exact due date so I don't know whether she's over or just fed up. She tried castor oil with orange juice and it didn't work. (I saw this on facebook!)

Give it a go!! x

i wouldnt try it, all it does is upset your stomach and you could probably do without a dose of the runs when you finally go into labour x

I've heard castor oil can affect the baby sometimes so it's better to avoid it.

Don't do it hon.

It can cause serious problems for you and the baby.
Aswell as upsetting your bowels it upsets the baby's bowels, and if the baby opens its bowels whilst inside, and you aren't ready for labour... you get into hot water.

Our midwives have been tip top, and they have warned people strongly about - and I trust them.

Castor oil
Women have been using castor oil to help induce labour for decades. In fact, many old school physicians and midwives swear by it. Castor oil can certainly be used for inducing labour, but it tastes horrible and should be taken with caution and guidance from a health professional.
It works by causing spasms in the intestines, which, because of their close proximity to the uterus toward the end of pregnancy, can cause the uterus to cramp. This results in labour.

You can take one to three ounces of castor oil mixed with six ounces of orange juice to cut its oiliness. Some practitioners suggest taking a single dose; others suggest repeated doses depending on your response. Castor oil will usually cause your bowels to empty within about three to four hours. Shortly afterwards, you should be in labour. Castor oil should not be taken without discussing with your midwife or doctor as it can cause a baby to become distressed if not taken with guidance

Just copied this from some website!

Doing the deed was the last thing that happened before my waters broke...hubby was dead against it but gave in eventually.

Athough I do think she just came when she was ready. I know how frustrated you must feel - Esmé came 5 days after my due date and waiting was the longest 5 days of my life! x

Yeah, that's another thing: The 40 weeks thing is just an approximate and woman start stressing out when they pass it. (I'm sure I'll be the same!!!!) but no woman stays pregnant forever. Baby will come when it's ready. I read somewhere that some countries have gone up to 42weeks for due dates and they were considering the same in the UK.
