I agree dont think you can... but id check.. if shes registered as a landlord and u have a contract you *might* get something.. but it looks unlikely, i can rent from parents but its a different house.. i think its not allowed under the same roof.

Hey hun, I can confirm that you wouldn't be entitled to claim HB if living with a close relative, however, if she owned another property and you rented it out on your own, then they would look into whether the tenancy is commercial - ie, rent out before, what would happen if you didn't pay rent etc. HTH X

Thanks. I can totally understand why its not allowed but its pretty annoying. If I decide to go and live somewhere else then I'll be entitled to HB, so I'd still be getting the money from the government. What difference does it make to them whether its going to a private landlord or my sister. She would be allowed to rent a room and be paid by HB if it was someone unrelated.

Just thought it would be the perfect solution to both our problems but no such luck!! I am going to ring CAB tomorrow I think and just double check there are no exceptions to the rule.
