DH had it a few years ago when he had an accident and described it as making you feel light headed, a bit like when you get drunk, before you feel sick.
MW did say that too much can make you feel ill, but I guess everyone's different.

hi! with my third child i used gas and air as i didnt want any other pain relief and wanted a natural birth, it make me feel really light headed and dizzy like i was out of control and going to faint! i continued using it thinking i would soon get used to it however within 10 minutes of using it i was violently sick all over my hospital bed and floor, i stopped using it after that and was fine! it really didnt work for me but i suppose everyone is different.
good luck! xxx

i was sick both times during labour but i dont think it was anything to do with gas and air - second time it def wasnt coz she took it away lol

i found to start with not to take too much, buliding up gently was best, by the time you are near delivering you will be sucking on that mouthpiece like you have never sucked before

my midwife said 'the people who say gas and air made them sick, well, they only say it because it's usually the first pain relief you're offered and you're just so excited and worried and overcome with emotion when you first come into the hospital that most ladies are sick and end up blaiming it on the gas and air they had, when it's not the gas and air at all'

- granted, it makes you feel a bit funny and WHOA, but that's it's job haha.

most people take it differently
some are sick
some are not

50/50 i'd say.

im not having any other pain relief unless someone suggests its better for me and baby xx

I haven't had the hospital's gas-and-air but I have had nitrous recreationally (in younger, wilder days!) and it did not make me sick, and that was straight nitrous oxide, not mixed with additional oxygen.... I can see how it would freak people out, as it really does make you high temporarily, so if you aren't prepared for that it would be really disorienting. Its effects are extremely brief, however, so if you don't like it, you'll be back to normal quite quickly.
