Swine flu vaccine when you've already had swine flu?!!??!?!

Ok so I've already had swine flu while I've been pregnant and was told by my GP at the time that you can only get swine flu once.

And yet this morning,I have been offered the vaccine by the same GP. And when I pointed out that I already had swine flu her only answer (in a very angry voice) was 'Fine I shall put it on your notes that even though youre high risk you have taken matters into your own hands and refused the vaccine'

So for the other pregnant ladies that have already had swine flu, have you been offered the vaccine?I dont really want to have a vaccine for something I'm already immune to if you know what I mean...
xxxxx

Hi, have you definately HAD swine flu -as in positively confirmed in lab tests? Not just cos your doc or NHS24 or anyone else said so!

If positively confirmed by lab tests -then I ma sure you do not need vaccinated but if not then better to get the vaccination.

I wanted to reply and was going to say the same thing...but found this on another site: Theoretically, if you have had a particular disease, then your body will develop antibodies to it and prevent you from getting the disease again. (That's how vaccinations and immunisations work.) Provide it doesn't mutate to a different strain, there is very little likelihood of getting that disease again.

I was told at the hospital that if you've had you do not need to get the vaccine this year (it is likely to be the same strain) however next flu season it could possibly have mutated and they would have adjusted the vaccine to that mutation.

WHo told u u can only get it once? This flu virus hasnt been around long enough for anyone to know if u can or cant catch it more than once!!! Just the same there has been no tests done for the vaccine on regnant women, so they dont no the effects it may or may not have

You can't catch swine flu twice or any strain of influenza twice unless you have a rare condition where your body can not make antibodies. It's just the nature of influenza viruses, their genetic make up and they way our body responds. Some viruses you can develop a limited immunity too like norovirus but you can be reinfected and become symptomatic within moths. If you could catch swineflu or any influenza twice then there would be no point in vaccinating.
