Giving birth and piercings.. (poss TMI)

Okay.. I've been putting this question off for sometime now, but I guess I need to ask someone if they know the answer.. and my MW is just an old fuddy duddy I can already imagine the look of pure shock and disgust if I mention it to her...

So... does anyone know how things work when giving birth if you have piercings *down there* ? Is it possible to give birth with them in? Will the Dr's take them out? If so will they just cut them off or will they bother to do it properly so I can put them back in afterwards? Or am I better to get OH take them out in the early stages of labour at home?
and... if they do have to come out... does anyone know how long they can remain out before I risk the holes closing up and can't get the piercings back through??

Thank!

There is a pained expression on my face - you are brave!

No idea (although I would reckon get OH to take them out at home beforehand), but good luck.

Firstly, I'm very jelous. I've been wanting that particularly piercing done for years, but am too much of a scaredy cat, so just stuck with facial piercings instead. So, yeah.

I think it will depend on how long you've had it done as to how long you'll be able to leave it out for. I would have thought that if you get OH to take it out just before going in, and get him to put it back in as soon as your done delivering, it should be fine. Just make sure your bar gets cleaned extra specially much, because of all the stuff happening down there, I think!

I guess they probably would ask for them to be taken out, as all other piercings have to come out, so i expect they would too!

I dont no how long it would take for them to close up, but when i had to take my tounge bar out, i put it back in the next day and it was still open!

Sorry, that wasnt much help really! Hopefully someone else will have a better answere than me!

I have no idea about length of time they can be left out b4 closing up etc.. but they do make you take out any belly peircings and remove all other jewelry in the hospital.. sooo i'd imagine they will def ask you to remove foof peircings! I took my belly peircing out about 8 years ago and can still get a bar through it if i want to but don't know if same applies to lady parts.. Hope this helps a bit x

thanks ladies..
So I'm going to have to take my tounge piercing out as well???? ahh man, I feel really self concious without that in. Feel like I'm not talking properly without it!

hmmm, I've had the *down there* piercings for just on 2 years now, so I would think that would be enough that they could be left out for a day or two without closing back over.

and T-Bex - honestly, go get it done, they were the most painless piercings I've had, tounge hurt WAY more, and after the initial couple of days healing, you very quickly forget they're there! Once you've given birth I'm sure lying on a piercing table is going to be nothing for you!!

Most piercings can be left in but you will be asked to remove any * down there * for safety hun in case it is caught . So tbh hun i would take it out when in early stages of labour or if you are being induced take it out that morning. You will be fine to put it back in soon as you want but you may find that part is very tender at 1st so i'd give it a few days. Piercings dont usually heal so quickly hun so a couple of days will be fine.
Belly piercings may need to be removed but can go back in straight after birth, Any other piercings only need taking out if having a c section xx

Hon, there's an awful lot of stretching goes on down there in parts you wouldn't imagine, particularly when the baby's head is crowning. I'd say it would be wiser to remove the piercing to avoid any unneccessary ripping. (Yik)

(You saucy mare, you)
