Incompetent MW, what should I do?

Went for my 30 week appt today and i have just been looking at the notes she wrote - she has measured my fundal height at 27cms and writtten this in my notes but then plotted it on the growth graph at 29cms. If my fundal height is 27cms it is the same as 2 weeks ago and would indicate no growth at all which is really worrying and if plotted correctly on the graph it would mean i should be referred for a growth scan. Now I dont know what to do, she is not contactable until Friday and I'm worried theres something wrong with LO. Any ideas??? Maybe im over reacting but why couldnt she just get it right!!! Its not rocket science!

I think the first step is to just get in touch with her, to ask her what the inconsistancy is about, and whether it's an error on her part, or whether you should get a referal. I think the most important thing is to keep calm until you can get in touch with her. You could try explaining the siutation the the receptionists, and demand to have a contact number for her?

Or, if you really are that worried until you can get hold of her, give the antental department at the hospital a ring in order to clarify. That's what I'd do anyway.

Hope all is well, and it's just the midwife having a dense day.

Yes thats what I was thinkin but is it not supposed to be same person who measures you? Im also now thinkin she would have realised if it was the same fundal height as last time and flagged it up if she thought there was an issue but she was a bit docile so unsure!

There may be a reason eg the baby lying sideways or something, i wouldnt worry to much but give the oncall midwife a ring tomo to check if you are worried. I wasnt being measured untill after 28 weeks the consultants just felt to see if babs was the right size. I dont think its that accurate.

I agree... don't panic. Until around 36 weeks, fundal height measurements aren't necessarily very accurate anyway. Certainly, it's worth asking her to clarify. But I don't think you need to worry...

the baby was lying sideways, she told me when she was having a feel. Does this make a difference? I thought it was the top of the uterus they measured from. I am going to investigate it all tomorrow, its not the first time this MW has been dense!

I would contact her to let her know your concerns, however, i wouldn't worry too much about the fundal height until you speak to her. I had a few weeks where mine hadn't changed, and mw wasn't concerned at all. Up until that point i had always been measuring a week or two ahead, so as you can imagine to go from measuring ahead, to no change at all was a bit worrying. Anyway, fundal height is just a guide, and a couple of cm out either way is never *usually* anything to worry about. I'd imagine if she was concerned she would have mentioned to you about going for a growth scan.

You want your mind put to rest though, so i would defo give her a call on Friday.
