Anyone been to NCT antenatal class - was it worth it?

So, DH and I went to NHS antenatal class last night and I was very disappointed. What they told you was good, but they didn't say anything about breathing or relaxation techniques or massage or anything, which was the bit I really wanted to know about.

I got home and got on the internet, and found there is an NCT class later this month that (provided there are spaces left) we could go to, but wondered if it was worth the £107 course fee? Do they cover the things I want to know about or will it be more of the same as the NHS class?

It's a 2 day intensive course 10am-4pm on 2 Saturdays.

Any views/advice appreciated - thanks in advance.

Hi, I've not been on one yet, but we are going to later to later this month. If your NHS one wasn't much good, then it should be worth it. They go through things in a lot more detail and in smaller groups. Its very relaxed so you have time to meet other people at the same stage as you, so is good for networking.
I've not heard anything bad about them, only good things
HTH

Ours was fabulous and couldn't recommend it highly enough.
Loads of techniques and it was great for meeting people too.

Thanks for the replies so far ladies, think I might do a bit more internet research, or even try and find a book which covers such things.

I agree on the networking point, although I think the one I would have to go to would be so far away from where I live that, unless someone else had to travel a similar distance, it's unlikely I'd find anyone to keep in touch with anyway.

I enjoyed mine but I didn't have any NHS ones to compare them too. It was a small group, we did a lot of groupwork, did breathing exercises, and all went out for a meal after. The breastfeeding workshop wasn't great but I think that was because it was another woman doing it, the main ante-natal teacher was great, the BF woman didn't really answer our questions!
All us girls from the group met up on Wednesdays from then on, the only reason I stopped going was because I moved 1.5 hours away! It is very expensive though, you could get away with just NHS ones and reading, but I really am glad I had mine and met some nice people who were going through the same thing. I wouldn't bother with NCT membership though, that's a waste of about £40! x

I think if your NHS ones were rubbish, it is def worth considering. Our NHS ones were fab and the girls at ours said they wish they hadn't bothered with NCT because of that! I was going to attend purely to meet other mums to be like me, but I did that at NHS ones too. In fact I have 5 ladies and their new babies coming to mine on Thursday

We went to NCT classes - 8 evening classes of 2.5 hours and we paid just over £100 (I didn't pay for the NCT membership)...

I would highly recommend them... our breastfeeding counselling session was particuarly good and I have kept in touch with the other girls who went and hope to keep doing that when all our babies are here.
