Anyone saying no to vitamin K????

I looked into Vitamin K and was thinking, that unless it's a complicated delivery with intervention I don't think its necessary for my baby to be injected.

I know exactly why people are having Vitamin K and realise it's been done for many years now.

But, I was just wondering if there's anyone else who is choosing NOT to have it?

I don't really understand what its all about. I know its for clotting...but are there negatives to giving them the Vit K injection? What was your feeling? Sorry to ask these questions when you are hoping for an answer!

Hahah! That's absolutely fine. I don't think there are any negatives really other than the baby can get a little upset on being injected but between me and my husband, we have a few personal reasons which probably sound quite silly considering it's been around so long and also, figure, that none of us or siblings had them and we've evolved okay, so unless there is higher risk of clotting issues (suction or forceps deliery), I'm gonna say no.

We've said no. But like you are open minded, depending on the kind of delivery which transpires.

Your posts make sense to me at least

I was firstly not happy about the concept of an injection at that time, but the drops etc didn't bother me so much. My husband is a vegetarian and generally avoids medications etc - I can't remember if it was a bovine source it's derived from, but in the absence of a situation which seems to require intervention in the natural order of things... then we'd rather avoid it.

Similarly we're hoping to take some time to meet LO and see how we get on without the oxytocin injection. I'd hope if LO isn't upset/distracted with the Vit K, we might get feeding and sort out the oxytocin the natural way.

But again, it's not a big fat No. We'd just rather avoid anything which doesn't seem necessary.

It's strange because I started feeling like we were the only people to say no. Haha! And I suppose I'm glad that OH thinks like me (plus he has extra reasons of his own) But yeah if there's assisted delivery then it makes sense as there'd be a higher risk of issues but otherwise would like to just produce a baby as naturally as possible.

What's the oxytocin injection.

I'm going to have it done, but we have thought long about it. The main swaying factor for me is that I bruise very easily and it's a handed down condition, mum and grandmum have it too - I'm fairly sure that my little one could do with the vit K boost if she takes after me, I think we will both be bruised by the delivery even if its a perfect one!

The midwife did say it's not done so soon after the birth that they grab the baby away from you to do it - you can feed and bond first, it happens when they do the usual checks on your baby.
