ECV... turning baby

Im booked in for an ECV this monday... I really dont know if i want to have it done... I dont know what the risks are... I dont know what to do, if i should leave it and see if he turns on his own and risk ending up with a section... Has anyone ever had an ECV ? Any advice at all

is this where they manually turn your baby? my friend was told by her consultant she had three options, to have the baby turned, a section or try to have a normal birth, he also told her there was a chance of placenta abrupt ion with turning the baby, so she opted to try giving birth and managed fine sorry i can't be of any more help hun xxx

i don't have any experience on this, but i remember very clearly one thing my yoga teacher demonstrated to two ladies at your stage with similar dilemma and what she said - her words - "best to look at other options" - and instead she tried to encourage baby to naturally move by tying scarf around lower back of lady & got her to lean her weight back a bit (u know those vibration machines for exercise that have a band - same motion used ie very firm hard pulling ) it may be worth a shot looking into this? both babies subsequently moved to right position, also im aware a couple positions u could quite happily do in comfort of ur own house that change babies position? is that an option. i'd google it and try get some pics of positions lol! sorry if i havent helped jus thought i'd try hehe xxxxxxx

Sorry no real advice about one, but a friend had one dones and said it eas v painfull, there is risks thats why you have to be ready for an emergency section there and then, My girl is breech at the moment and back to back and tbh if she doesnt turn herself im not gonna have the ECV thing done, it just sounds distressing for me and baby, Its personal choice tho, Do you want to try natural ? i think in all cases theres a high risk of needing an emergency section thats why i would personally just have it elective as theyre much more calmer than emergency. x

Thanks for everyones replies... I did want to try natural... and i suppose there is still time for him to turn on his own... I did tell the doctor when she was asking me about the ECV that i wasnt to happy about trying it, but she went ahead and booked it anyway and has wrote in my notes... patient keen for ECV Even tho i did tell her i wasnt happy to try it specially when she said there is only a 50% chance of sucess and even less coz im overweight... so didnt really see the point in distressing baby for something that probably wont even work... Ive heard it can be quite painful

glad someone has posted this .. my boy is still breech aswell, if he doesnt turn himself then im not going to have a ECV because its not 100% going to work and it sounds so stressful for baby! ill give him time to turn and try some of the tips people have given to turn a breech baby and then see where i stand, if the lil buga hasnt moved still then ill have to opt for a c-section even thought i wanted a natural birth, id rather have him safe in my arms than risk anything happening to him with the other options i have .. hope lil one moves for you to have your natural birth you planned x

I have a baby that's been breech/transverse/oblique the whole way through pregnancy. Now i'm pretty much certain that it's transverse and I will probably be offered an ecv after my next scan (Weds). My mum's a midwife and she doesn't think I should get it done. She has the opinion, as do I, that the baby is lying that way for a reason, ie more room, more comfortable etc. I also think that with transverse, the baby is likely to just quarter turn back to where it was even if it does move head down. I think if it doesn't move on it's own then i'll get a section even though I would love an uncomplicated normal natural delivery! Maybe next time.

Think ive definately decided im not getting it done... mostly for the same reasons everyone has given... a different doctor did tell me a few weeks ago there could be something preventing him from turning head down and i really dont want to force him... so i will give him more time to turn on his own... i really dont think its worth the risks to try something that doesnt even have more than 50% success !
