Upper Abdomen Scan? Anyone had one?

Hiya,

I've just had a call from the hospital asking me to go for an upper abdomen scan this afternoon.

I'm not seeing a doctor afterwards, dont know who's requested it or why I'm having it, I asked the numpty on the end of the phone what type of scan it is and she said I dont know I'm just reading off a piece of paper

I've just googled upper abdomen scan and it says its on your gallbladder/spleen/liver & bile ducts.

My liver function test results have been consistently high for a few weeks now do you think it could be something to do with that?

I rang ADU and they said they're too busy to look at my notes

I may as well camp out in the hospital car park the amount of time I've spent their these past few weeks !!!!!!!!

Not heard of this but didn't want to read and run. Guess it would make sense that it's associated with your liver readings but odd that nobody's told you they're referring you for this. Sounds like you just have to go with it and see what happens. Good luck.

Hi Hun, an abdominal scan was what I had for checking my gallstones, but I knew all about that.

I was referred by my GP, have you tried calling them to see if they referred you?? Also when I had mine I got my GP to fax the referall to the scan dept at the hospital to speed things up (they were gonna post it) have you rang the ultrasound dept to ask who referred you??

It might not work, but it's worth a try!

Thanks for your replies ladies, the hospital called and said they are doing a scan of my gallbladder to make sure its okay as if theres something wrong with that this is what could be affecting my liver/ be raising the function test levels.

Never had any problems with it before , to be fair I dont even know what it does

They've said the registrar who i've been seeing for the past few weeks requested this scan because she checked my results this morning and knew I was coming in tomorrow to see her and the consultant, they should have " a clearer picture" of whats going on after I've had this.

So if my gall bladders okay they know its definately something pregnancy related. God i'm rambling but I just feel like i'm going round in circles and getting no-where !
