Tens Machine

Hi folks,

Anyone know what the difference is between say a Tens bought at Lloyds chemist and those you can hire for use in labour?

We've actually got a tens machine from when Hubby slipped a disc in his back. It's got two sticky pads rather than the four that come with the ones used for labour.

Can I use the one we have, will it be adequate? Are the maternity ones a scam just to sell more Tens machines? lol

Thanks in advance

One is safe in pregnancy and the other isnt! Seriously though I think it's the frequency. I used on in my last labour and it got me through the first 6 hours. I've got another (I sold that one ) for this labour. I think they're good

I bought a maternity one rather than a regular one as it has the 4 pads which are quite large too. It also has the boost button which I *think* boosts the impulses as and when you need them to help with the pain. Mine was just under £45 with delivery from Amazon and it's called Mama Tens. My OH will use it on himself after the labour as it doesnt say it's ONLY for labour and birth whereas the regular tens machines dont recommend being used during labour and birth.

Lloyds pharamacy do sell a labour TENS machine which has the 4 pads rather than 2. It is very reasonably priced too at £29.99. Think I might buy one of these.

The labour tens have boost button so when your pain get worse while you are having a contration you press boost and the pulse gets stronger to help ease the pain.

I used one and found it good.
