Swelling

I have quite swollen fingers and ankles tonight. Should I tell my midwife tomorrow or only if I get a rash etc. ?? Having not really worried unduly all through pregnancy i seem to be worrying about things a lot now!

Hey Buffy,
I would give your m/w a quick call, or your maternity unit at hospital. Only reason I say this is I'm having some problems with my kidneys, and have a lot of protein in my urine, and a symptom of this is swollen hands and feet/ankles.

My m/w found it only by accident at a routine urine check, but I think it's always best to get some advice. If you're anything like me you won't get a decent's nights sleep from worrying about it, and the m/w and hospital staff always very good at putting my mind at ease.

Hope this helps,
Caroline x

My feet/hands have been swelled non-stop for the past week and a half. When I mentioned this to my OB and showed him he said it's normal in the third tri because your body begins to retain water. He said the only way to flush it out is to drink water regularly throughout the day. Dunno though, I would still mention it to your MW.

Hey, I would mention in to your midwife tomorrow as they can check your urine in case of protein etc (signs of preeclempsia)

I've mentioned it to my midwife and at hospital checkups(been in the last 3-4 weeks) but all times my blood pressure has been ok and urine completely fine so must just be water retention though im keeping a very close eye on it as midwife at the hospital said on monday when i voiced concerns that i had a bit of fluid in my hands and she could see my face was a bit puffy But my feet are the worst...im wearing my mums shoes and she's two sizes bigger than me!! (told midwife this) and my ankles are swollen and noticed in past two days that when i "poke" my feet the skin stays indented for ages. I've been told to keep a close eye on it just and try and put my feet up as much as possible. Lots of us seem to get quite a build up of fluid and swelling in hands and feet in third trimester!

I would definately mention it to your doc. Mine says that the feet and ankles are so much of a problem, that he starts worrying when it's the hands and face. Goodluck to you! =)

Thanks ladies - will call mw today. Feet and ankles are better from laying down I guess (and the 1001 wees in the night...) but my hands which are normally quite thin look like a bunch of bananas! Off to accessorize to find a ring I can wear instead of my wddding and engagement ring for a bit!

thanks for all your replies. Glad you are all bring kept an eye on to keep you safe by your own mw's and ob's

Xxx

Mine said that for the last 4 weeks, everywhere seems to swell with some people and as long as there's no tingly feeling then it's ok. My hands at feet started to swell at 32 weeks, now it's spread to my face - great (nothing to do with excessive choclate eating)
