carpal tunnel advise, is it worth it at 38 weeks

Hi i am now nearly 38 weeks so wondering if its worth going to the docs for this. I keep waking up with numb hands and the joints in my hands feel sore and achy during the day. My hands and wrists are aslo swollen (being kept eye on for preeclamsia already). Is this carple tunnel and if so does it cause long term damage or will it just go away after babs is here.
What do you recon is it worth going to get those splint things from docs or just putting up with it till babs is here, how long does it take to get them from first appoint?. Getting really bad period aches and pains so feeling optemistic but could obviousally be another 4 weeks
Thanks all

Heya hun,
I got the same thing...well, sort of. I've had carpel tunnel come and go over the years b/c of the jobs I've worked so I do own a pair of wrist bands. They definately help! I think it was about $20 for the pair (here in canada) and I bought them at the local drugstore. I just wear them for a day or two...sometimes 3, depending on how much pain I'm in and then the aching stops!
Now as for the numbness, I started getting that right around 37wks and I asked my doc about it, he said that it is b/c of all the swelling and water retention in my body, my circulation is getting cutoff to my hands. He didn't seem to worried about it, so neither am I. But he did say that it will go away shortly after baby is born.

Hopefully this gives you a few answers, and good luck!

I've been ignoring it in the hope it will pass, no idea if that stupid or not, but I've not got it all the time.

I would probably make an appointment to see doc or midwife... I had this with my last son and it lasted for a few weeks after he was born.... the splints do help... i would go just incase you go overdue and it doesnt go away straight after the baby is here

I suffered with this a lot in the final weeks and wore splints for the last two weeks or so and they definitely helped. Had my baby last Wednesday and all symptoms now gone!
