Changing Diapers/Nappies - Quick Question

I was reading about changing diapers today, and something came up that I have never even heard of doing - and I have had a lot of babies in my family.

It said to use petroleum jelly/vaseline as a "barrier". I guess it helps prevent diaper rashes? Anyhow, does anyone practice this?

I think you use barrier cream to prevent moisture to prevent nappy rash? I always have seen people use sudacrem.

I would be inclined not to use vaseline as my skin reacts badly to it. Whch is rare I think as it seems so innocuous. But the fact its made from petroleum kinda always put me off too.

I have heard of this but never practiced it. I usually use Desitin and it works great.

Eddie used to get horrible nappy rash if I didn't put cream on everytime. In the end I use to get him clean, dry his bits right off by dabbing a tissue on them and then applied Sudocrem. I have seen Vaseline used but I never used it on Eddie as I think it would have made him worse.
