What to pack in hospital bag for a section?

Hope you ladies don't mind me popping over but i was wondering if any of you ladies here are having a section and have your bags packed? What did you put in? And how much of things did you pack? My last birth was an emergency section so wasn't really prepared for the length i had to stay in.Thank you xx

hiya,

I'm finding out on Fri if I'm having a section or not. I've just packed the bag according to what the hospital said and I reckon if I need any more of anything I'll text my DH and get him to bring it for me. Clothes can be washed both for me and the LO so he can take a washing bag home every day if needs be.

Out of curiousity and I hope you dont mind me asking, did you bleed after a section like you would a vaginal birth?? I'm just wondering as I really dont know what to expect. Also how long did it take you to get mobile?

I had a c-section after failure to progress with my DD. Yes, you bleed, a lot, just like a vaginal birth. And as for mobility, depends, it's different for everyone. Some women go home after 3 days, but I couldn't walk more then a couple min after 3 days (and it hurt so much I really didn't want to walk). Really push yourself to get moving without straining yourself too much, it really depends on what your pain tolerance is though. Ultimately though I was able to go grocery shopping (with DH there) after 2 weeks.

and as for the orig post, I just wore hospital gowns the first 2-3 days, I couldn't get regular clothes on before then. So just needed a couple pair of pjs and something to go home in. I also brought magazines and other stuff for entertainment (even if you don't need them for after the birth, you still will be in the hospital for a few hours before your section starts), my own pillow (so nice to have!), slippers, toiletries. My hospital provided disposable undies, pads, hospital gowns, so didn't need to bring those. Hmmm, can't think of anything else, but if I forget anything I'll just send DH to get it

Thanks ladies..
Only thing is i live a ferry and hour car journey away from the hospital so can't get hubby to bring things everyday etc. I only bled for 4 weeks and was up after 6 hours..everyones different. I was lucky my recovery was quick. Was out walking with the pram day after i got out of hospital. xx

My OH is staying in a hotel for 3 nights cause we are 2 and a half hours from hospital.Im booked in for a c section on the 28th October.I have already had 1 for my daughter 8 years ago. I have packed.Jammies and a nightshirt as I was worried about the jammie bottoms rubbing.Maternity pads.Slip on slippers so I dont have to bend.Everything for a normal birth I suppose.X

I packed far too much stuff, but i was allowed home the day after my c-section as i seem to recover really well...

Most women stay for 2-5 days so just make sure you have enough day clothes/PJ's etc as the basics such as maternity pads/breast pads/knickers you can always send someone off to fetch/buy more...

HTH x

Thanks ladies..with the last one i had everything i needed just not enough..guess it's better packing more than less to be safer than sorry. I see you live in Argyll sticky bean so you'll be in the same boat as me then? Am lucky that i have family that lives in Glasgow so hubby won't have to drive back and forth from Dunoon xx
