Just had my Gestational Diabetes Test

Since I was switching insurances around the time that I would have normally had my test, and then had to wait for my new doctor to have an open appointment, I just had my gestational diabetes test today. She ordered it a week and a half ago, but I was nervous, and have an appt this Friday so I figured I better go get it done today! Well first of all, that drink was pretty bad. I dont care for really sweet drinks, so it was kind of difficult to get down... Then I started feeling pretty weird in the hour wait... I'm ok, so I go into the room to get my blood drawn. She had to poke me twice, since I have really small veins, but the needle didn't bother me. But suddenly when the blood started coming out, I got really dizzy and felt light headed. I felt worse and worse as it was coming, but luckily I got thru taking the blood. I thought I was going to faint, so the lady got me some cold water, and put a cold cloth on my head.. After a couple of mins I started to feel a little better and less like I was going to faint, but started feeling nauseas.. I asked for the trash can just in case, and a second later I was vomiting uncontrollably. I was shaking and felt faint more... So she had me sit there for a little bit with the cold cloth on my head, and drinking water (as much as I could keep down). After a little bit I was feeling a little better, but called my mom and asked her to pick me up since I didn't think I could make it home... I've been feeling sick all night...

Has anyone experienced this? I googled it, and one website said that some women will feel faint and nauseas, and possibly even vomit, and that it was a sign of hypoglycemia. Upon further research, I found that that is basically the opposite of diabetes, when you have too low of blood sugar. Does anyone know anything about this? Thanks girls.

So sorry you're not feeling well hon. I almost passed out/vomited when I had my GD test done. It was quite weird, but I think it was because I had low iron since they put me on tablets after they got my results back. That might be why you felt ill? I hope everything turns out fine for you.

ugh i have this soon and im scared but i just wanted to say that if your sugar is low and you drink something sweet that should make you feel better. if ure high and u have something sweet that would make you feel sick. i dont know why you would feel sick but that stuff is disgusting and probably just triggered off your stomach. i shake and sweat when i vomit all the time so that sounds normal to me. i just get worked up coz i hate puking. i hope it turns out well for you.

Honestly I am not trying to scare you, but with my first pregnancy I took the test and had that reaction, and mine came back positive for GD, but my friend also had the same reaction and she didnt have GD... so I think that it just varies from person to person... Good luck I have my test tomorrow, and am not looking forward to it at all
