My turn to freak out - baby movement :(

Well, as title says, I'm starting to freak out. Up until Saturday, the baby was very active, lots of kicking, so that I was wondering if she ever sleeps.

Sunday, she became more quiet, still felt movments, but more like little stretching (feels like the Incredible Hulk sometimes), rolling around, but no proper kicks.

Now, it is still like that. I've had this pattern before - some really busy days, followed by some really quiet days, but I am totally freaking out to the point of trying to wake her up constantly.

I've heard lack of space towards the end of pregnancy makes the kicking harder for the baby - I am 34 weeks now, is it that phase already?

This must be quite common as I've had the same things happen to me. I was told that the baby doesn't have much room in the last few weeks so movements are a little on the slow side. If you're worried contact thr hospital and go in for fetal monitoring to put your mind at rest. I did and they made me feel relieved.

I don't know honey but the things I've heard that help are:

Ice cold drink or ice cream
Playing loud music
Caffeine (although maybe a little cruel?)

And lastly, relaxing, tilting back and breathing deeply into your stomach. Apparently babies tend to get more active when you're not.

Obviously if you're worried, call your MW. Best of luck hun. Probably nothing.

It's as nightmare isn't it?! My lo goes from having a few days super active to a few days where you have to keep thinking 'was that a kick?' I hate it, I keep thinking that I can't be phoning the midwife twice every week for monitoring

Oh and I know what you mean about the 'hulk' movements, it's like having a snake in there isn't it!

Hi there

I had similar issues couple of weeks ago.

My doctor has told me that the more the baby grows, the less kicks I will feel, but more rolls and stretches. It will still be strong movement, but different type of movement instead of the usual kicks here and there.

x

When I talked to my doctor, she told me that if it's normal for my baby to have active days followed by quiet days, then it's normal, as obviously the baby has no concept of a "day". But yes, as ninab says, the quiet days are nerve-wrecking. I'll probably phone the hospital if the movements don't pick up a bit though.

Thanks Fluxuspoem, that's exactly how it feels.

I am having the exact same thing, so reassuring to know it seems quite normal! My LO did this a few weeks ago and MW said she is probably having a growth spurt so will slow down in her movement and she will pick up again, which she did...just trying to keep that in mind now she is not moving as much now.

Don't be scared to call MW or the hospital if you are worried though, they are there to look after us paranoid mothers!

Yeah I know! I was about to call, but she started to move around quite vehemently, so I think everything's OK :-)
