Raised CRP level? what does that mean?

Just had a letter through from the hospital and it says that I need to go back for bloods as i have raised CRP in my latest blood test taken yesterday!

Anyone know what this is?

Protein levels, C-Reactive Protein, I am lead to believe this is fairly common in the second half of pregnancy and if you take certain contraceptives....I assume you have a heart condition or arthritic condition they may want to check up on?

It is just a very non-specific marker of inflammation. Can sometimes mean that you have an infection, sometimes doesn't really mean anything! I wouldn't be worried at all, they will maybe want to check a blood count if they haven't already and maybe get a urine to make sure no infection there. Don't worry, if you feel well then it is unlikely to mean anything.

Thats all then, they just want to check that. I know because I have a specific type of arthritis they expect to see this in my bloods and ignore it!!

I agree Glad your mind is put at rest, it can be horrible just getting letters out of the blue especially at the weekend when there is nobody to ask (apart from B&B!)
