Raised glucose level - oops - hee hee

I chased up the results from my 28 wk bloods as I hadn't heard. Apparently my glucose levels are raised. When the MW told me I giggled and said oops that'll be all the malteasers and mars planets and she laughed and said well that's easily identified then - at least you know why!

Best I lay off the choccie me thinks. Oops!!

crikey they cant have been that bad, my results were phoned thru within a couple of hours! they were so off at 14 weeks I had to have the horribly boring glucose tolerance test, thankfully that was ok ( its far more accurate) but ive got another one next week as Im now 28 weeks which is a bit more reasonable!
xx

The results are supposed to be between 3.8 and 5.7 and mine was 6.2. I guess once I told her I'd been scoffing chocs it was just not considered an issue??? Don't know? Do any of you know what your measurement was??

Xx

I wouldn't worry about it too much but I'd keep an eye on it when you have your wee tested at your normal appointments. I had a few high results right at the end of my pregnancy and the doctor said it was fine to have a few stray results... but then I gave birth to a giant 9lb1oz baby - ouch! If I got pregnant again, I've been told they'll check me properly for gestational diabetes.

I was just diagnosed with GD, and that's only because I actually constantly have high blood sugar. I was contacted right away (took the test on a Saturday, got my results Monday), so if I were you I wouldn't worry as it is something they need to look into/start treating right away.

After my 22wk scan the scanner was concerned about GD cause Oompa was measuring on the top end of average/normal for size, (ignoring the fact the father it over 6ft and I'm not small either!!) When I went to book my GTT the next day the nurse I spoke to decided it wasn't enough to book on the scan alone and that she'd take a random blood sugar test first... Unfortunately I'd JUST finished eating a big slice of chocolate cake so when the results came back from the test my levels were at 7.1.

Had my GTT yesterday and passed with flying colours. No GD for me!

Guess the point of my ramble is that high glucose levels and a 'bigger then average' size baby do not always mean GD.
