a bacteria test?

Its the GBS test, my doc said we are doing it at my next appointment.
It's the test to check if you have some bacteria in your vagina and you have to have some IV during labor if you do.
But anyways, does anyone know what I am talking about?
I was reading and it says they test the inside of your vagina and your rectum !
This is kinda making me nervous.. is it going to be painful?

I think you're talking about the strep b test. It's a good idea to have it done. In the UK I think you have to pay to have it done but I think I will.

I think they just use a swab, like a really long q-tip and test your vaginal fluids.

I know what you are talking about!

I am a carrier of Group B Strep and i have swabs taken every two weeks. (Vaginal swabs). I am having courses of antibiotics every six weeks throughout my pregnancy to keep the levels down as i lost a baby at 26 weeks because of GBS (although that is very rare).

Over here they dont routinely check for GBS, they are only doing this cos of my history.

They wont check your rectum cos it wouldnt cause any problems being there, only in the vagina or cervix where mine is. About 30% of women are carriers and i had never heard of it before. You have to have IV antibiotics during labour cos the baby can catch it during birth through the birth canal when its being born.

Hope this helps.

Yup its for strep B like the other girls have said. I didn't get it done last time with Drake because of the early labor, so they had to give me the antibiotics just in case. Its just swabbing so it shouldn't hurt, and if they go near your rectum it will be with a swab as well. You'll be fine

I was looking it up online since I'm going to pay to have it done and it seems here, the ones I found do a rectal swab as well. Lovely!! They're not too expencive though.

LOL GIRLS!!!!! I had this with my daughter. It's not as horrible as it sounds, just makes you feel a little awkward. All they do is swab the outer part of your vagina, and same with your rectum. I PROMISE they don't shove a swab up your butt! LOL If you have strep B they can tell just from testing the outside. I didn't end up having strep B, and it really only applies to vaginal births. So since I'm having a c-section AGAIN they won't have to do it again, lol. Yeah it's one of those things you don't ever hear about BEFORE you get pregnant, along with all the other gross and wierd parts LOL!

All I can picture is this q-tip going in my butt!
It just makes me want to cringe thinking about it. Good to know though that they only go around the outside, maybe it wont be to bad. I will still probably be tensed up!!
