Naproxen Sodium (Aleve) pain killer...

I have a bad tooth and it's taking forever to get into the dentist to get it checked out. I've been taking 1 500mg tablet of naproxen every 2-3 days and my mom keeps lecturing me about how the only safe thing I can take is tylenol. I know tylenol is safe but I have to take 3-4 of them to kill the pain and I can't see how taking EIGHT tylenol a day can be any better than taking 1 naproxen every other day. What do you guys think?

Ive always been advised not to take anything like Aleve, advil etc so I just never take it but not sure how one every so often could hurt much but Id ask my Dr. to be sure...maybe your Dr could prescribe something better than tylenol that is safe. I know what you mean about Tylenol it does nothing for me either sad enough I have some lor tabs that I have took probably 2 of during my pregnancy for pain at 2 seperate times of course. but I know that Drs sometimes prescribe them to pregnant women so thats why I took them.

As much as I love Aleve, I've stayed completely away from it. It's an NSAID and NSAIDs are no-nos. Why not talk to your midwife/doctor about something stronger to get you by until you can get in to see a dentist? Aleve, in the 3rd trimester, really IS worse then a few Tylenol a day. Seriously. It's classed as Class B in the 1st and 2nd but in the 3rd, it's Class D because it can cause constriction of ductus arteriosus (one of the main artery shunts running in baby's body controlling where the blood flows to the lungs and heart) which leads to neonatal pulmonary hypertension which leads to respiratory failure (baby won't breath).

I understand the tooth pain. I have a wisdom tooth growing in sideways and the only help for it when it kicks up is a dose of Tylenol along with a dose of ibuprofen about 6 times a day. Tylenol 3 at least helps me not really care that it's bothering me. Also, try sucking on a dry tea bag (regular old black tea).

Bam-I knew there was some reason they always say stay away from them but I didnt know why...thanks

so how bad is it that Ive took a Lor tab for pain but only on 2 occasions in the whole pregnancy?? Ive heard that they prescribe these to pregnant women is why Ive took them before you think Im a druggie and they were prescribed to me just before finding out I was pregnant for a severe ear infection.

Hi, Naproxen really isn't safe during pregnancy If you see your doc or dentist (although they may be nervous about prescribing in preg) then maybe they could offer you a codeine based drug which is stronger than tylenol but won't hurt baby. Letia sorry I really don't know what Lor is!! So don't know if it's safe.

Lor tab is hydrocodone and acetaminophen so it has tylenol in it it isnt a NSAID and is considered a narcotic I think...

Lortabs are fine. They've been given to me a few times during my pregnancy (I have gallstones). Hydrocodone is class C but that's more for 1st tri than anything. Of course, you don't want to make it a daily habit but 1 or 2 every now and then is ok.

For our UK friends, Lortab can closest be compared to cocodamol.
