confused???

i made a previous post about pressure down below. am just back from midwife and have been left a bit confused!

i explained to her that when i stand up or sit down there is a sharp pain which feels like lots of pressure but leaves me in agony in certain positions. she had a feel of my belly and a listen to the hb, she then told me the cartilidge bone ,down the front( im presuming she means the pubic bone) has split, i then asked her would this get any better , she replie not until i had the baby. i then asked " would this make a normal birth possible or not?". to which she replied " maybe but they will let you try, but if u cant manage when in labour they will give u a c-section".

Now i am really worried i am goin to be in agony during the labour. surely if they think it might end in a c -section they would just make it elective because i would rather that than the baby and me get in distress during labour. am just bout ready for cryin as oh is workin away for 2 weeks at a time and i cant phone him to have a whinge bout the midwife as he works on a oil rig and i have to wait for him to phone.

sorry for the rant

Oh hon, I'm sorry you have to go through that. It sounds really painful I would ask for an elective c section if I had that. Like you, I rather just get the baby out instead of putting myself and the baby through distress of trying to deliver the baby naturally. I'm kinda in the same situation as you minus the split in the pelvic bone, they're going to let me try normal labor but might end up having a section because of the trouble I had with my son but they know ahead of time of my previous history so I don't think they'll make me labor for that long before deciding if its going to go alright or not. While you on the other hand they might make you labor unnecessarily because they don't know how your body will react. Talk to your midwife and get more info on the elective c section hon, I think it would be best. You can also try and see what happens, it really depends on how comfortable you are with the idea. I hope you get some answers.

I'm sorry that you are having to go through that. Hopefully you can see the other midwife and she can give you some reassurance.

Bringing OH is a great idea, for some support in this. Please do see the other midwife if this one makes you uncomfortable, she does sound pretty mean by the way she said things. You deserve better when it comes to your health care and the babies. I hope at your next appointment things go a lot better for you

The only way to diagnose a split pubic bone is to X-ray it, so she is not 100% on her facts! I had severe SPD and I can assure you I did not get my diagnosis from a MW it was her who mentioned it, but to get it diagnosed is not her job, she can do nothing about it, you need the appropriate referral!

You need to see your GP and see what s/he says as you should have a physio look at you and give you more advice! Your MW sounds like a cow to be frank and she has given you worst case scenario and left it at that. That is not on!

Good Luck hun! x
