Weight Question . .

So I was reading VanWest's post and read that her baby that was born at 29 weeks weighed 1 lb. 15 oz. and I remember that when I had my ultrasound at 28 weeks it said both of my babies weighed around 2lbs. 4 oz. Is this normal for them to weigh that much? I know twins are supposed to be smaller . . Anyone know what the ideal weight is or what yours weighed around then?

Just checked my book to be sure, but at 28+5 weeks my baby measured to be 1.18kg which is 2lb 6.oz im sure. And the midwife has marked this estimated weight to be bang on the average line of growth. But babys grow in their own time really.

a midwife can give an estimated weight by checking you over but growth scans are slightly more accurate (sayin slightly coz my aunt was took to deliver early coz the measured it to be a hugge baby, in actual fact she was only 6.2lb) if there were any concerns about the growth of your baby im sure your midwife would have refered you for a growth scan

Actually, I brought this up with Turbo Mom yesterday. As Angel was over 1lb at 24 weeks and she told me that girls that suffer from pre-eclampsia tend to have Intrauterine Growth Restriction (IUGR). Thats probably why little Noah wasen't the weight he should be at his stage.

Info on it:

Intrauterine Growth Restriction (IUGR)
Reduced blood flow to the placenta restricts the supply of food to the baby and can result in a shortage of food and subsequent starvation. As a result, they may be smaller for their gestational age. Ultrasounds can help identify IUGR. The good news is many babies who suffer from IUGR can catch up on their growth within a few months.
It is important to note that many women blame themselves or poor nutrition for IUGR. Such problems are caused by a failing placenta and not the mother’s diet. A woman could be eating all of the right things but if the placenta is not capable of passing such nutrients along--the baby will suffer.
