Breechy blighters? Any ECV advice?

Hello you lovely lot!

I had an appointment today supposedly to discuss the idea of homebirth but it transpires that my newbie is still sat up breech stylee.

They had to rummage to check where she finished up and I am carrying her low so whilst there is time to turn I am not sure she will....I have a follow up appointment in a fortnight when I will be 36 and a half weeks.

I am guessing they will offer me an ECV (external cephallic version) where they attempt to rotate bambino using manhandling and a bit of scan guidance.

I have heard mixed things about how painful or not this is and that the success rate is 50/50. If any of you have any experience of it I would be grateful for the heads up!!

Hope you are all well and enjoying the home stretch!!

xx

It seems very early to even try it considering you are at week 34, there's still oddles of time for baby to flip.
Where I come from they only start to worry about breech positions from week 37 onwards.

At week 39 on my last pregnancy I was scheduled for an EVC but did everything I could think of to try move baby as there are risks involved and as you say the success rate isn't great.

So I started with wiggling while on all fours, nothing happened.
I progressed on to doing the breech tilt, getting my hips higher than my chest, I used a wall to prop myself against rather than a board that is usually mentioned.

Acupuncture is also something that is recommended to try turn a baby but if baby is happy in that position they may well turn back into breech position again regardless of what we do. I also enquired about breech births and tried to find someone competent in the hospital to do one rather than have a section.

The tilt worked for me.
Good luck getting babs to turn.

Thanks for that

The procedure in my area seems to be that if the baby appears breech at 36 weeks they will scan to be sure then offer ECV as they prefer to do planned caesarians in the 37-38 week slot so they catch you before you go into labour!

There is still plenty of room to turn as its my 3rd pregnancy but I am just trying to arm myself with info just incase she is as awkward as the donor of half her DNA!!!
