I have a friend who swore by it - research is mixed. But they don't recommend it until 35 weeks!!

I took RLT capsules with my last pregnancy & i think they helped loads!! I had my LO early, with a quick first birth & no tears. The MW that delievered said it was cos of the RLT.

I took it from 32wks. Started with 2 aday, 3aday at 35wks, 4 aday at 37wks & i had my LO at 38wks otherwise i would have took 6aday from 39wks.

I am also taking it with this pregnancy. I had the odd tablet from 30wks but didnt start taking them properly till 34wks.

RLT is very safe & can actually be taken while ttc, from the day you find out your pregnant till a few weeks after the birth as it helps tone the uterus & slows the bleeding.

Hope this helps!!

Yes I'm drinking a cup as we speak. My midwife said start at one cup a day at 37 weeks then increase to a max of 4 cups a day over time. I started at 36 weeks on one cup a day (miss heard ) and I'm upping it a cup a week so by 40 weeks I'll be on 4 cups. She said it encourages our digestive system which uses the same muscles as our contractions, basically meaning it keeps us regular, and having regular poos stimulates the cervix to dilate. I've also hear another theory that it makes the second part of labour quicker by preparing the uterus for contractions but not sure why. Since I've started it I've been getting a lot more twinges and I think BH (although they aren't painful as yet) so I think it's doing something for me. I find it pleasant to drink so I'm not to worried if it doesn't, at least it stops me having sugary drinks instead. My MW swears by it so I'm giving it a go. I also am very achey down there so I'm hoping that is a sign too. Fingers crossed it works for us. xxxx

Hmmm I wish I had started it earlier now. Maybe I'll have three cups a day from now on

Here are some bits from research - personally I would be weary of taking it too early, but that is just my personal preferance!
Some research carried out in australia -

raspberry leaf extract is able to modify the course of
labour favourably by producing more coordinated uterine contractions.

This is from some very old research -

Although the labour pains seemed less
severe in themselves, the actual time was rather shorter than
usual, dilatation more complete, and puerperium uneventful.
For a fortnight before the calculated date the mother would
take a wineglassful of the tea t.d.s.. and a pint of it as soon as
the pains set in.

Another australian paper -

Hoffman (1990), the uterus is strengthened and toned by the regular ingestion of raspberry leaf throughout pregnancy and labour, assisting contractions and checking any haemorrhage during labour, a statement supported by Mills (1989).

Their results are fairly favorable in terms of RLT.

Hope that helps!

I took RTL from 34 weeks with both of mine and had short labours with both. I found both of my labours were fast, very intense contractions and I dilated from 2cms to 10cms in 2 hours with my first and 3cms to 10cms in 1 hour 10 mins. I took the capsules nd got them from Holland and Barratt x
