| Birth Plan Hey ladies!
I've just written my birth plan. Could you take a look over it for me to see if there's anything I have missed out?! I plan to labour at home for as long as possible, using warm baths, massaging and a TENS machine for pain relief in the early stages.
Once at hospital I would like to remain as mobile as possible, continue use of the TENS machine and massage to manage pain. I would also like to try using gas & air when appropriate.
Although it is my aim to avoid as much intervention as possible, I will consider having an injection of Meptid if I am struggling with the contractions. However as I am concerned about feeling ‘out of it’ on this if I can avoid it I will.
I would really like to avoid an epidural but, as with the Meptid, I am keeping a fairly open mind about this as I do not want to rule it out entirely if I am struggling.
In the event of an induction, the above will still apply.
I would like the baby delivered directly onto my chest, as soon as she is born, to begin skin-to-skin contact and the first feed as early as possible.
Once the baby is born I would like to try to deliver the placenta naturally if this means that the baby will benefit from receiving all of the cord blood, before the cord is cut. However I would also be happy to wait for the cord to ‘empty’ and then have the injection to deliver the placenta – whichever is the most effective method whilst meaning that the baby still gets the benefit of the cord blood.
In the event of a caesarean I would like the baby to be given to me for skin-to-skin contact as soon as possible – immediately in an ideal world! If I have to have a general anaesthetic and cannot have immediate skin-to-skin contact I would like Adam my husband to have the skin-to-skin contact as soon as possible, which can be transferred over to me once I am out of the theatre.
I would like the vitamin K to be administered by injection.
Thanks!

| i think this is real good, not too strict which is a good thing,
i havnt written one properly, just said im open to everything, it might sound naive but i figure at the time when i probably wont be in best frame of mind for decision making that the docs and midwives will probably have a better idea of what will be better for me
alot of people have told me that when they got to hospital in labour nobody looked twice at their birth plan and if they did it was little more than a glance and wasnt properly followed,
i dont want to set myself up for disapointment so ill just go with the flow, xxx | | | | Status: Offline

| I think its really good, might pinch it!!!!
however I've had to put in mine "DO NOT ask father to cut cord" because my husband has a phobia of blood, and so just being there will be a miracle, don't want him passing out at the final hurdle!!! | | | | Status: Offline
