Codeine during pregnancy?

I saw an on call doctor today because I have a very bad cough, sore throat, body aches and had a fever. My normal OB appt. is tomorrow but because of the fever I didn't want to wait. They say that's one thing you should call about.
The doctor I saw today is the one I've seen for years, since high school. But switched to have the same doctor as my husband, who is also our OB/GYN and will be our pediatrician. He's a family practice doctor.
So today's doctor said I have something called an Adeno virus which is contagious and he has taken me off work until Thursday. He also wrote me a prescription for a cough suppressant with Codeine so I can sleep at night, since I've been coughing too much to get much sleep. He said it's safe to take while pregnant. Everything I have read said otherwise.
I plan to talk to the pharmacist about it when I pick it up, and if I don't feel comfortable will wait until my normal appointment tomorrow afternoon to talk to my OB about it first.
What do you guys think? Have you heard anything about it?

Hiya - I've been on paracetamol (tylenol) and codeine for weeks and weeks, prescribed by GP for SPD.
Codeine is safe in pregnancy and doses are lower in cough suppresant medicines anyway, its just later on in 3rd tri that they sometimes like to reduce the dosages to discourage any dependency for the bubs after its born.
Hope you feel better soon

I have an appointment with my regular OB tomorrow afternoon. The pharmacist printed out some info on the two main ingredients in the cough medicine, one being codeine. They both are not recommended for a pregnant woman, specifically in 3rd tri as they can cause seizures in the fetus I'm 8 months pregnant. But I'll see what my OB says tomorrow. If he is okay with it, I'll get it filled. The pharmacist didn't feel comfortable giving it to me until I discuss it with my OB. So we'll see. But thank you! If my doctor gives me the go ahead, I won't be so paranoid about it now

ive been taking 30/500 for most of my pregnancy for migraines and severe spd. i take 4 a day. Doctor and midwife said it is safe to take during pregnancy but not through labour as it can make baby a little flat at birth.

I got prescribed codeine to help with my IBS but never needed to take it but the doctor said it was definitely safe.
