I'm Currently Feeling: | The lumbar puncture actually goes deeper than the epidural, they are two very different things. The lumbar puncture enters the spinal cord and samples fluid from there, whereas the epidural does not go as far as this and hence is not as painful. The benefit of epidural is also that it can be topped up for longer pain relief. | | | | Status: Offline

I'm Currently Feeling: | First of all Candice I'd like to comment on your post. I was one of the unlucky one's with the epidural-it took 14 attempts of them trying to get the needle properly in, and have subsequently been left with nerve damage at that area in my back BUT I agree whole heartidly it was bloomin worth it! lol
Katie I had one with my 1st daughter, after they got it in, BLISS! I would thoroughly recommend it. With my 2nd daughter I didn't get it, and the whole labour was hell and I look upon it as a bad experience which I didn't ever want. I wanted the epidural but was refused because of previous probs, and she was back to back and 9lb 7oz! ouch, agony....
All I can say is TAKE IT!!!!! It's a god send hun! |

I told my OH that I DO NOT want an epidural under any circumstances no matter how much I ask for one, I'l try gas and air and Pethidine, but I'd like it to be as natural as possible |

I'm Currently Feeling: | I never had one before but I plan to for this one if I can do a vaginal birth. I'm rather small not just in size and height but the space in my pelvic area is not very wide and the babies on my husband's side are never small he infact was 9pounds 1once and I was 7 pounds so we're expecting a big one. |

I'm Currently Feeling: | I had it with DH and DS, a definitely YES for this time round! It is terrible to imagine how it is to go without epidural, although I have heard many brave women who did not need one! | | | | Status: Offline

I'm Currently Feeling: | YES. After how much pain I was in just from gettin my cervix checked, I couldn't even take that! I'm definately opting for an epi. Water birth just doesn't cut it for me anymore lol! |
