New advice re swine flu for pregnant women...

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/health/8157755.stm

Anyone seen this article this morning? I still have two weeks at work and am wondering what I should do? Any thoughts on what you guys are doing in light of this new 'advice'?

I know, I saw the news this morning and was wondering myself. I work in a government building with around 180 people and I am not due to start my maternity leave til 10th August.
I just don't know what to do, to be really honest I have been really tired and struggling with work so need to examine my motifs, and think am I just picking up on this as a way to start my leave early, or is it a genuine concern?
What is everybody else doing about it?

I work in a school and my head sent me home weeks ago so I'm very thankful of that now. Always best to be safe, I use the hand wash and just be careful not to stand in large crowds or use public transport. If we are careful we can reduce the risks. xxx

What did the headteacher say to you? Do you think it is worth me speaking to somebody at work? They are really awful when it comes to attendance so I am really careful and never take time off unnecisarily, which also scares me away from broaching the subject. I also use public transport to get to and from work.

I saw this earlier too... Not sure what we're supposed to do though.

I have 3 weeks left at work and get the train & tube into London every day. The person who sits opposite me at work as swine flu (he came in for 2 hours last week, thats the only contact I've had with him) and I'm worried..... Work haven't "officially" told anyone about it - I only know as I sit right next to him and we all know as he's told us....

I might talk to work tomorrow - I only have a few weeks left and maybe they'll let me work from home.

What's everyone else planning on doing??? I know we can't shut ourselves away from everyone....

Karajane - I too have to get the bus to and from work every day and also have been struggling with tiredness, etc. Trouble for me is that my manager is off now for the last 2 weeks off my maternity leave so i'm having to train up my replacement on my own.... finishing early really isn't an option but i am seriously considering asking someone if i can start like an hour earlier and finish an hour earlier to miss the rush hour on the bus. Perhaps this is an option for you too?

Vicks - we've had a couple of 'potential' cases at work too and our place hasn't thought to really officially inform anyone - i think this is bad from our point of view really because ordinarily i wouldn't worry, if i get it i get it, but we've got a little baby to think about and i think we have a right to knw if there are cases around us and i also think it's our employer's responsibility to put our needs first in a case like this!!

I agree we can't shut ourselves away, just wish that midwife or managers at work or SOMEONE would take the lead so it didn't seem like all we were doing was either a) over-reacting or b) just trying to get out of working a little longer!!

Yes it could be an option, I am going to follow the news and NHS website closely for updates on guidance and just play it by ear. The buses wil probably be less busy this week anyway as the kids have all started their school holidays. The problem is, there is so much scaremongering in the media, but the "official" advice for women is so unspecific, just general guidance.

It is bad really - I only know because someone had thought to tell me he actually had it. HR were supposed to tell me, but that was on Thursday and still nothing. He hasn't been at work since last Monday, but he sits 10 feet away from me

I'm going to speak to work tomorrow. I agree, I don't want to be over reacting, but we need to know what to do.... It's so difficult to know what to do for the best
