Help-Birth Breathing

I'm reading Marie Mongan's Hypnobirthing book, as I can't afford classes at the moment. Is anyone else here using hypnobirthing that can explain how to do the BIRTH BREATHING technique? maybe i'm being thick sorry!
I get the slow breathing and sleep breathing but not the most important

I understand that we're meant to take a fast deep breath, but how do we breathe out? It says to breath down, how do I do that? Help

I'm 38 weeks and running out of time to practise and get this right.

There is a hypnotherpy girls thread in 3rd tri which you can search for. There was discussion about J breathing there a few weeks ago. My classes start next week to I'm afraid. Good luck

When i was preg with aiden my midwife tried in vain to get me to go to classes ect but i REFUSED point blank! && i have no regrets in doing this, i felt that if i went to these classes then i would be trying too do something in labour that could fight against what my body wants too do!. I dont see why you need classes when your body is designed too do what it is gonna do & anyway... your body just takes over in labour anyway so why stress yourself trying too remember which was too breathe ect. May i add aiden was born natuarlly nice and healthy no intervention needed =]

The advice in the book is to imagine opening up for a poo and practice breathing while doing that too! It's really hard to describe, but you sort of "feel" the relaxation spreading down your body as you breathe out. HTH.

i couldn't find much on thids in the book and like u i haven't done the hypnobirthing classes. i interpreted the method like this: deep breath in and then on the outward breath try and focus it downwards towards ur bits relaxing all ur muscles 'down there'...try when ur having a poo- without actually pushing just use breaths to move things along! i think u'll understand what to do alot more when ur actually 'doing' something (iukwim?) i find it quite hard to explain...sorry x

Not much help but all i can say is i didnt practise anything at all but when your in labour it all comes naturally to you and you just know what to do. I was worried that i hadnt practised any of this stuff and that i wouldnt know what the hell to do, but you really just do it naturally anyway.

Ooh, also, when I was doing the "J" breathing in the pool I imagined making a J shape with my breath and muscles. It's like imagining a ripple of relaxation going down your body then out through your birth canal and forwards into the world. It turned out I had a premature pushing urge and once I was out of the pool it all went down hill, but while I was relaxed in the pool I was totally in control and was able to not actually push, just breathe down.
