Freaking Out!!!!!!

This is just a bit of a pointless thread...

but I watched some videos today of women in labour...and I cannot get their screams out of my head! Why the hell did I watch them?! Up until now I hadnt really gave labour too much thought because I dont know what its like and I wanted to keep an open mind. But now....Oh my god!

I AM TERRIFIED!!!

Even OH asked me to switch the videos off because he was getting scared!!

I was exactly the same after watching those vids on another thread yesterday or day before (cant remember now they all merge my days lately!)

And I had an hour of sobbing and it put me right off. I am having a home water birth too.. so it means no epidural so I will be screaming if I cant get in the zone and relaxed enough. I am freaking out too!!
Kept thinking OMG how the F**K am I goning to get through that???

DOnt worry - your not alone.!!

There is a reason your head is up here and you give birth down there you know!

I've had that too.... and now I'm feeling much more relaxed about the whole thing, watched a birth the other day and actually felt quite good and empowered about it... the lady made a lot of noise but in a strange way it was kind of beautiful...

I think maybe each time we have a little 'freakout' it's our brain's way of preparing for it, because I know every time I've had one I feel a little bit better about it each time. Yes it's probably going to hurt like hell, but it's for a purpose, and we can't stop it, plus every pain gets us closer to the end of it!!! If we can do this we can do ANYTHING!!

I'm hoping to have a water homebirth too!! I've been a bit nervous at the thought of no epidural, but to be honest the thought of going into hospital actually scares me more!

Just remember that our bodies are totally designed to do this, and will do it no matter what state we're in. Plus the pain may be excruciating, but will only last for a while.

Perhaps it might be worth watching some nicer birth videos?

Probably best not to watch any where you actually see the baby coming out close up - like someone else on this thread said - that's why your head is up here and the baby comes out down there!! It's like having an injection - better if you don't look!!

Here are a couple of nicer labour and birth videos that I think might help:

This one's the one I watched that I liked. She does make a lot of noise, but somehow it's 'productive' noise you know? They don't show the baby coming out close up - there's something really warm and supportive about all the people around her, and she starts sobbing with happiness when baby arrives, it's beautiful. However, if you don't want to hear someone making noise, don't go there!

I freeked out too when I first watched videos of it, I pretty much had the same thoughts as all of you HOW THE HELL DOES THAT GET OUT THERE!!! But now when I watch one I just end up crying the minute the baby's out. I'm soooo ready to be a mum that i'm not even worried about the pain. (ok maybe a little bit )

this is the worst thing u can do!! when i was pregnant with my first i watched lots of birth programs.....and lets just say...they all screamed their head off,and one in particular was very disturbing. the girl was throwing herself around the floor in pain and wouldnt get up.

my advise to all new mums would be to not watch these videos!! lol

But my actual birth was the TOTAL opposite of all of them. i never made a noise during birth....i really wish i had filmed it coz i could show u girls that not everybody wails like a banshee n screams at the top of their lungs!!

I am strangely looking forward to labour! I know it is painful and I am sure I will retract what I have just said during it, but to me it means I am closer to meeting my son!!! xx

You know i have done it 3 times and i never screamed once yes it hurt but i was putting so much energy into pushing i never made a sound .when in labour with my first there was a woman accross the corridor and the noise she was making terrified me that was when the midwife said "best not to scream love youll just waste all the energy you need to push baby out" so i took on board her advice and have had 3 relatively trouble free labours. Its perfectly normal to be scared of somthing you have never done before but remember at the end of the painful bit you will have the best joy in the world your new baby
