home birth

How easy is it at this stage to switch to a home birth?

I have my consultant appointment in the morning and if she doesnt given me an inducetion date for before xmas then i will have to switch to a home birth for xmas eve, xmas day and boxing day as i have no one to look after the kids on those 3 days.

Im having a sweep tomorrow and i was having contractions last night for a couple of hours... had tighenings today that showed up on the monitors but i couldnt feel them and now im very crampy in my lower back and tummy so fingers crossed i will go tonight anyway...but if i dont, can i switch to a home birth this late, they will prob be annoyed wont they?

Sorry Layla no idea about Homebirths but I would presume it would be ok to switch at this stage because some people don't plan homebirths but due to fast labour or not aware they're in labour they deliver at home. Obviously they want to schedule their workload especially over Christmas but what can you do if you don't have anyone to mind the kids?
Does your hospital have a creche?

Good luck for your appointment this morning, with all the niggles and twinges you've had recently and the fact you're 3cm already I'm sure they will give you an induction before Christmas.

I don't see why not Layla, it's your body and your baby, and if your happy then go for it.

I was planning a homebirth, didn't go plan but from experience, you will need to let your midwife know asap though as she needs to bring a box of stuff, needles, gloves etc and if you want pethidine you have to get a prescription from your Dr yourself.
You also get you name put on a board at the hospital and they fill a form out to have an ambulance crew on standby from your due date just in case.

Good Luck

Cx
