Husbands/OHs and drinking alcohol

So I read a thread on here where a girl was annoyed that her OH had drunk a lot and she was near her due date.... understandable of course but the first time I had really thought about it...

What are you planning to ask of your OH in relation to drinking as your due date approaches? How far is your hospital? Are you expecting him to drive you there?

Our hospital is a 2min drive or a 10min drive and I am hoping DH will drive me there at the latest possible time!

Anyway - we had a party last night and he got pretty drunk as I expected but just not sure when to get him to really cut down, not that he gets that drunk even but will ahve maybe 3-4 beers 2-3 times a week or half a bottle of wine...
Also wondering if its even worth getting him to cut down that level because TBH if something starts he's likely to have time to get below the limit before he has to drive me anyway..

I'd appreciate knowing what you girls are planning in this regard...

My husband doesn't drive so not having to deal with this, but I would advise OH to lay off the booze after about 36 weeks, I'm sure it won't ruin his life that much to avoid alcohol for 4 weeks for his pregnant wife!

Hmm, that might have been me moaning? Lol.

Hubby stopped of his own accord a few weeks ago but now that I am over 36 weeks I don't want him getting bladdered! He is now going to have a max of 2 bottles of beer now and again. Last two weeks he'll have nothing until baby arrives xx

3 weeks ago, DH swore off alcohol til after LO is born. Thursday night a few of his work buddies (easily) convinced him to go out and he got wasted. Didn't bother me since I don't feel I'm close to labor yet. I'm gonna give him one more free pass on July 4th but that's it! I'll be 37.5 weeks then.

We went to a BBQ last night and my OH was really good about it. Knew if anything happened he'd be on driving duty, but as the night went on he had about 5-6 pints (after asking if it was ok) I wasnt worried as i dont feel even close to labour yet but we have plenty of neighbours and family close by that can easily come get us if need be. If you can have a back up driver - if the worst happens you can always call an ambulance to come get you.

See for me it's not about the driving (I'm planning a homebirth anyway), but I would want OH sober while I was in labour. What bloody use would he be if he was half cut? I'm anticipating being late again, but just incase, OH will be off anything more than one bottle of beer as of 38 weeks.

My OH actually said of his own accord the other day that he would have to not drink for the last perhaps 2 to 3 weeks so i didn't even have time to think about it! As Marley2580 has said, for me its not so much the getting there, hospital is 5 mins away in car and we have family nearby, its more I'd need him to be sober to be of any use at all to me!

Thanks girls ....

I think he will get a free pass in a couple of weeks as we have friends staying, not to get wasted but maybe to be over the driving limit. I don't mind if he's had 1 or 2 when I'm in labour as long as that's all it is. Its unusual for him to drink a lot anyway, i'd say usually he is just over driving level.

I think from 37 weeks he'll be keen to be prepared anyway just wondered when you girls were thinking about this from really. I won't be getting an ambulance that's for certain - my insurance doesn't contribute much to ambulances unless I'm in an accident and they are VERY VERY expensive here, I'll ask neighbours or roll down the hill

It's so easy to forget just how lucky we are to have a free health service isn't it? NHS can be a nightmare but even so, I can't imagine needing an ambulance and first having to worry how i was going to pay for it! Lol at rolling down the hill, if hospital is down hill... why not ay!! hehe
