I'm very worried

Hi there people, i'm new to the forum and my names kris, my girlfriends name is kayleigh, we are due to have a baby boy on february the 15th.

I have a few concerns, on of them being that we went to see the midwife today for the 5th time.

She has told us that my girlfriend has to much water (amniotic fluid), i have 'asked jeves' about this and seem to be finding mixed responses of which are extreamly worrying me. Has anyone else had the same or similar problem? We have been booked in for another scan next week with a doctors appointment straight after. Have we anyting to be worried about? I would prefer to know now if there is anything that we need to brace ourselves for.

Secondly, the midwife today told us the results of her blood test which we had last week, ( the gp didnt phone us ) my girlfriend is apparently 'highly anemic, i understand this is a condition where there is a lack of red blood cells, this helps us to understand why she has been getting so much pain from this first pregnancy, mostly chest pains and difficulty breathing. Can this condition harm the baby?

Thirdly, over the last 2 months she has appeared to get 'veracious veins'. these are gradually getting worse, bless her though, she is only 20 years old. Obviously this doesnt help with her feeling attractive, i know i shouldnt ask but us there anything i can do, are there any products i can buy her to help her with this or is there anything i can say to make her feel better about herself. Like i have said, they are getting worse and worse, and i really wish there was something i could do to help her.

Lastly, is there anything at all that i can help her with or do for her, she's not the best person for telling me thinks and sometimes i think that she assumes that i am a mind reader. I always try my best to comfort her and cater for her needs but i feel like there are hundreds more things i can do for her, of which i have no idea what they are. She is still working and is due to work only another seven days up until she takes her maternity leave starting on new years day.

Please help me, i'm really starting to feel down, i dont want her to know that i'm feeling down. I really wish for a great son.

Thankyou, Kris

the anaemic thing is lack of iron she can take iron tablets for this to build it up or eat foods with iron in them my iron is low also and ive been put on 3 a day now but they gonna have bloods ready in case i need transfusion after operation on monday but im trying to get it back up before then,

support tights can help with varicose veins
amniotic fluid they will keep giving scans to check it so its good she is being monitored i found this link

id try not to worry too much as she is being well monitored by sounds of it xx

your very right shamrock the anaemia can be sorted with iron tablets, iv been on them for very low iron from day 1 of this pregnancy and my last pregnany too.
iv never suffered from varicose veins myself but have heard the support tights are very good for preventing them and also there are a few positions like crossing the legs for long periods of time which can make the varicose veins worse, keeping good blood flow to the legs also is a good thing to do even when sitting down just moving the ankels around for a few min can help circulation.
and the accessive amount of amniotic fluid can be quite common also, some people get really large bellys late in pregnancy and think that they have a really big baby but it turns out to be mostly water but like u say your girlfriend is being monitiored regularly for it and im sure if anything was very out of the normal they would be running tests on her by now so the hosipital must think its nothing terrible to worry about but are going to keep there eye on the situation.

i hope everything for both of u and the baby turns out fine and to make her feel better why dont u cook her a nice romantic meal before she comes home from wprk and whilst your eating remind her how beautiful she is and how proud of her you are for being so strong and giving u a beautiful child im sure that will make her feel better in herself, good luck

hi hun,

There is no reason to have any concerns until you are ever told otherwise. But no there is nothing to worry about the care providers are obviously wanting to check things out and make sure all is well, it is just normal check ups to confirm things. Many women have scans for many reasons, so please try not to worry!

As have already been said, this can be sorted with tablets, so again, nothing to worry about, it has been picked up and medication can now be given to rectify it.

Make sure your GF does not cut off the supply to her legs, so no crossing legs or kneeling for long periods etc....also, surgical stockings or support tights cold help her.

As far as helping her, just use your common sense and try to read her signs for tiredness or being fed up and see if there is anything you can do to help at that time. Just help her out around the house and shopping etc and make sure she is not running herself into the ground. Don't take things personaly either, we can all say things that hurt and we don't mean them, hormones are a real sod and can make us feel bad too for saying some of the things we do. But deep down, we dop appreciate everything, we are just not very good at showing it whilst we are worrying about everything pregnancy and labour related!

Good luck hun, she sounds like she has a gooden in you, and I am sure she knows this! x

ok, she has been taking the course of iron tablets and driving plenty of orange to help with the pills.

We went for a scan this week, we have been told that our baby is perfectly healthy - the midwife was kinda right about the water - kayleigh has too much water at the top but theres nothing to worry about.

I'm glad everything is ok, kayleigh is a lot happier now and so am i.

anyways, i thought i would share you a image or three...

First up is kayleigh and her sister, kayleigh is on the right.

and i got a tattoo done the other day... (oops)

thankyou all so much for your help.

No matter what happens as long as you are there for her, as it sounds you are, then she should be very appreciative. The fact you have joined a forum to ask the questions shows concern on your behalf, sadly something that isn't shared by all father to be's.

If my experience is anything to go by they'll tell you if they think you are in the danger zone - just be good to her and support her and just take it day by day!

Loving the tat!

ive got too much fluid too. midwife is giving me next check on january 8th and if my uterus is still rising she is going to send me to be induced, i will b 37 weeks so im not too worried she just said she dusnt want me to have a c section or unnessesary pressure on my ribs etc so it is better to be induced rather than go to 40 weeks plus and not being able to have my baby naturally due to her being too big or something ha! x
