Symphysis Pubis Dysfunction

Ive got midwife tomorrow and going to mention it to her but do you think im perhaps suffering from Symphysis Pubis Dysfunction or not..?

I find it extremly hard anyways to do much walking - I know other pregnant friends who can manage a lot more then i can. If i push myself a little bit too much I end up with achey legs and sometimes a dodgy back.

However for last week (ive not even been over doing it ) ive had sooo puch pain in my groin - it hurts for me to roll over in bed , i can hardly open my legs and im now finding it hard to walk.Normally i sleep with a small pillow between my legs as i find it comfy but i cant even do this as it hurts to have my legs slight parted. The thing is most of the pain is only in my left side (groin) - which makes me think perhaps ive just done something to it. If it was Symphysis Pubis Dysfunction wouldnt both sides hurt..?

All i know is for over the last week its hurt a lot and ive rested and its slightly worse if anything !

I've been having something very similar; not as bad as what you described, but still pretty close. I'll be asking my gp tomorrow. Hope you feel better soon,

SPD is normally on both sides as it is caused by the separating in the middle, that said it can be worse on 1 side if you have some how managed to unbalance yourself, normally through a fall, crash or accident of some kind. when i had it with my daughter I was symmetrical, this time I was in a bus crash at 6weeks and my left side tends to hurt before my right.

the most important thing for reducing pain is to keep as symmetrical in movement as you can and not to push ourself too hard, if it hurts it's tiem to stop and have a rest.

hope you all feel better soon.

A couple of websites you can look at for more information (if you haven't already):

Pelvic Partnership
Pelvic Instability Network

Good luck

Hi,

I have this and the MW advised me to buy a bump support band from Mothercare, there £10 and they although there not a cure to the pain the do make a bit of a difference, try to keep your legs together when getting out the car, bed etc and sit down when putting your clothes on. I have it to the point now where i find it hard to walk and i have been told by the midwife to take paracetamol, and thats not even working. If you can just take it easy and rest as much as you can, i know its a bit easier said than done but it will get worse. Hope this helps, hope you feel better.

xxx

hi...........spd is caused due to pain in pelvic region and make sure you dont have a caesarian section and it is recommended that such ladies must give birth in upright position so nothing to worry about n hope your pain goes soon

it sounds like spd to me...i get pain in one side of my groin only sometimes...it depends what i've been doing to aggitate (sp?) it.

keep ur legs together as much as pos, dont sit corss legged, sit down to put on pants/trousers etc so u dont have to stand on one leg at a time and try not to walk too far...i find if i spend the day over doing it (and for me thats just walking round a supermarket) i can't move for a few days after.

floating abt in a swimming pool helps...so does cool baths or ice packs on ur groin (the physio told me it can get swollen so ice will cool it down and help make the pain go away) and lots and lots of pillows in bed to find a comfy way of laying
