VBAC or C-section? *confused*

Well this is my story its a bit long but i need u all to know this before u give ur advice, experiances or opinions.....

in 2001 i had my baby boy via c-section after a long 22 hour labor, the reason for the secion was due to him being a big baby and my pelvis being very small and also he was facing the wrong way which wasnt discovered until the last min.
the experiance i had with that c-section was horrific, i was treated badly in the local nhs hospital and once i returned home i got an infection in the wound and was very ill.

im now 33 weeks pregnant and have an appointment on the 11th dec to discuss the options of VBAC or a section but im very confused as what to do, i have asked to be induced at 38 weeks so the baby will not be so big and i have a better chance of delivering her naturally but heres the problem, they have said that the chances are they will not induce due to the hormones they use to do it make the contractions stronger and higher the risk of uterine rupture (although iv done lots of research and the risk is only bumped up by 0.02% and the risk of rupture without being induced is only 4% anyway) so to try for natural birth i may have to wait until labor starts naturaly but if i go overdue again (i was 42 weeks when i went into labor with my first) the baby could be too big and i go through all that again to end up in theatre anyway, i also asked if they could maybe scan and keep an eye on her weight but they have said no to this as well as they say that its not acurate enough.

so now what do i do i would rather have a section planned if its going to happen anyway, i would rather it be a calm and planned operation than it be an emergancy, but i really want to try and give birth naturaly too.
what would u do in this situation and please dont say its up to me coz everyone in the family keeps saying it and id like to know what other people would do in my situation and what choice they would make.

please help...

I am kind of facing the same thing,I had an emergency c-section with my first and they have given me the decision to either try it naturally or have another c-section.I personally have decided to go for another c-section as I believe that it will be less stress on me because they don't know why I couldn't dilate past 4cm and I dont want to go through an emergency c-section again,to go through the labour then have to end up being cut open again is an experience I don't want to repeat.I do feel as if I have been robbed in some way of a great experience of having a child naturally but in the end it is better that the baby and mum are safe. It's not an easy decision, but don't let anyone push you either way.I am sorry you had a bad experience with your first, especially getting an infection and being sick,it's hard enough recovering from a c-section then also being sick aswell.
Goodluck with your decision.

i had a choice after my emergency c-section i chose elective section as i was worried it was another big baby also of the scar rupturing and also going thru all that pain to end up with another emergency anyway they booked me in 38 weeks for planned section and i must say the planned one was lovely i recovered quicker than i did after the 1st one then i got pg with 3rd child and didnt have a choice because id had 2 sections id automatically get a 3rd one now am pg with my 4th this is also an auto section but they dont like to do too many so they are sterilising me after this one.

a friend of mine had emergency section and she chose natural 2nd time but she ended up having another emergency

thats how i feel robbed of doing what mothers do and push there babies into the world, i dont feel like i missed out on the bond like some women do but id just love to know how it feels to give birth and go home the next day feeling able to move, its the not being able to do anything after a section that is so frustrating and the pain is so bad, i just want to be able to look after my baby without needing help up and down starirs or making bottles coz standing for longer than 5 min starts to feel uncomfortable, but if i have the section at least i know i will feel better with it planned and probably recover quicker than i would if i had a labor first, thanks for your reply and i am seriously considering having the section as much as it scares me as i know it would be safer for me and baby.

i would choose a c-section also if it were me. i think a calmer environment would be much better than another emergency. exspecially if i had felt traumatized from a prior experience.

My sister had a planned C-section and she said it was weird not starting labour, but it was sooo good too and her recovery was much easier and faster, as they seemed to stitch her up better and take more time with her!

At the end of the day hun it is a personal choice and only you can make it.......you will know in your heart what it is you do want to do, so go with that once you know what it is. x

i think im going to go with the planned c-section, the thought of what happened last time round really scares me, iv been told before that a planned section is always better recovery than the emergancy and if i plan it now i'll have time to get my head round it and mentally prepare for the operation. thanks for all your replys and advice x x
