Optimal foetal positioning (helping LO engage!)

Went to an ante natal class Monday where an antel natal yoga instructor gave us a handout on how to help baby lie with it's back to your front and engage.

It's for people who have a head-down baby, designed to be done from 34 weeks.

Do:
  • regularly use upright and forward leaning postures (turning a dining chair round and sitting on it backwards, for example) which gives more space in your pelvis to turn
  • Sit with kneew lower than hips, with a back as straight as possible.
  • When reading, sit on a dining chair and rest elbows on the table, leaning slightly forward.
  • Kneel on the floor over a gym ball/big cushion
  • put a wedge cushion under your bum when driving
  • when swimming, use front crawl - stay on your front and breast stroke apparently is less benefifical cos of the way your legs kick
  • Sleep on your left if you can
  • When getting BH, lean forward to encourage the right kind of movement of LO

DON'T:
  • lounge on the sofa with your knees higher than your hips
  • go on long journies in cars with buckjets seats - use a wedge cushion if you have to
  • sit with your legs crossed
  • use squatting in late pregnancy as an exercise

Hope this helps someone!

I'm banning myself from the sofa as of next month lol. I had heard though that breaststroke was a good way of getting baby to engage as it opens your pelvis.

If you can do it! I physically couldn't when I tried last week.
